Surveys needed for Marion to qualify for grant
In an effort to obtain grant funds for city street improvements on North Cedar and Eisenhower Drive, Marion residents are asked to participate in a survey which is part of the process.
By now all city utility customers should have received a survey in the mail from the City of Marion. The survey requests information about family income and demographics.
The only identifier on the surveys is a number on the form which is required to validate the information. No names or addresses will be part of the results.
Answering the questions truthfully also is necessary to obtain accurate results.
The purpose of the survey is to determine if the majority of Marion residents are within the state's definition of low to moderate income (LMI) which would mean the city could qualify to apply for a Community Development Federal Block Grant (CDBG). If the application is approved, the city could receive up to $400,000 for the city project.
Residents are asked to return the survey to the city by Aug. 15.
The numbers of those who did not respond will be matched to their names and addresses so the surveys can be sent a second time. Residents also may be contacted directly for information.
This is the only purpose for matching the names and numbers.
