Young people from here planning to be in Washington, D.C., from Wednesday to Jan. 23, to participate in the March for Life include Julie Rziha, Bermet Zhumakadyr kyzy, Kristine Jirak, Tori Marler, Jacob Jirak, and Tyler Klenda.

Tom and Dee Duggan attended the installation of Connie Johnson of Burdick as postmaster at Durham Wednesday.

Russ and Julie Kerbs are the proud grandparents of Sydney Ashton Smith, born Jan. 10 to Jesse and Ashton Smith of Pilsen. She weighed 6 pounds, 3 ounces and measured 19 1/2 inches. Paternal grandparents are Phil and Jan Smith. Great-grandparents are Agnes Bina, Reuben and Lucille Kerbs, Lorene Smith, and Irene Werner.

Jane Vajnar attended the funeral service for Sam Andrews at Lindsborg Wednesday followed by a fellowship time at the Methodist church in Marquette.

Tillie Hein, Edna Mueller, and Walt and Iona Dietrich attended a card party Sunday evening at the Ramona Senior Center.

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs went to McPherson Sunday evening for supper out in celebration of Reuben's birthday. He received many birthday cards and phone calls.

Georgia Spohn met Lenora Graham of Florence in Hillsboro Tuesday for dinner out.

Tom and Dee Duggan attended the basketball game in Herington Saturday evening to watch Lana's Dance Team perform. Their granddaughter, Kaylee Hall, was one of the dancers.

Frank and Anna Mae Stika, Lori Moldenhauer, and Lisa Hanschu attended the funeral service for Jack Olson Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Herington.

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs went to El Dorado Saturday and attended a surprise 80th birthday party for Virgil Gooding at the Grace Lutheran Church. Following a noon dinner the children of Virgil and Barbara Gooding presented a program and a video of his life. Many relatives and friends attended. Tom and Dee Duggan was a Sunday overnight guest of Darla Hall and Adam of Lee's Summit, Mo. They enjoyed supper out, bowling, and a movie. After Tom's appointment at the Kansas University Medical Center Monday morning, they stopped in Topeka to visit Don and Betty Frick on their way back to Tampa.

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs went to Mercy Hospital in Moundridge Friday evening to visit with Jesse and Ashton Smith and to make the acquaintance of their new great-granddaughter, Sydney.

The Lutheran Women's Missionary League met Jan. 9 in the church basement. Pastor Clark Davis led the topic, and the group planned their activities for 2008. Adeline Bernhardt was the hostess. Others present were Kathy Davis, Cindy Bentz, Joyce Medley, Leona Kleiber, Michele Bielefeld, and Janet Bielefeld.

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs went to Abilene Friday morning. They picked up Taylor Thompson, did some errands, and took her out for dinner.

Tom and Dee Duggan attended a meeting of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees at the senior center in Herington. Tom was installed as the new president and Dee as the new secretary for 2008.

Glenn and Eloise Kerbs of Dodge City, Connie Thompson of Abilene, and Reuben and Lucille Kerbs left early Jan. 7 and flew to Phoenix, Ariz., where they attended the funeral of Joyce Gooding Jan. 8 at Gethsemane Lutheran Church at Tempe, Ariz. They visited with many relatives and friends at the home of Elmer Gooding and returned home late Jan. 9. The Gooding family has the sympathy of the Tampa community.

The Centre High School quiz team took second in a field of 30 teams at a meet in Council Grove Jan. 6. Team members were Tye Remy, Brooke Carlson, Julie Rziha, Ida Saadon, and Bermet Zhumakadyr kyzy.
