Several youth were among the FFA members from Centre High School participating Tuesday in a district competition at Harper. The senior division parliamentary law team consisting of Julie Rziha, Kristine Jirak, Allie Will, Tye Remy, Dallas Rosenow, and Nellie Hill placed second and qualified to compete on the state level in May. Centre's parliamentary law team has qualified for state competition four years in a row.
Two junior division teams placed second and third. Tori Marler, Tanner Brunner, Ben Baker, Casey Kristek, Allison Shields, and Tyler Klenda were on the second place team. The third place team included Ripley Howard, Katie Remy, Cole Svoboda, Brian Burhoop, Adam Matz, and Amanda Floyd.
The team which took second place in leadership information and third in ritual consisted of Julie Rziha, Kristine Jirak, Nathan Barney, Nellie Hill, Shelby Deines, and Andy Carlson.
Cole Svoboda placed third and Katie Remy fifth in creed speaking. Congratulations to all.
This area has been enjoying a beautiful autumn. The high winds of the past few days have blown away many of the brightly colored leaves, but the maples in front of the Lutheran church and Tim and Monica Svoboda's home were spectacular. Farmers still are harvesting milo and soybeans. There still are some migrating birds on Marion Reservoir, although some of them seem to have moved south already. Winter must be on the way.
Georgia Spohn met her cousin, Lenora Graham of Florence in Hillsboro Monday morning. They attended Aleen Ratzlaff's program on Malaysia at Learning in Retirement and then enjoyed dinner out.
The Centre High quiz team placed second in a meet at Tescott Monday evening. Team members are Julie Rziha, Kristine Jirak, Tye Remy, Brooke Carlson, and Bermet Zhumakadyr kyzy.
Valerie Hampton of Hillsboro was a Sunday dinner guest of her mother, Lois Sklenar.
Lori Moldenhauer and Frank and Anna Mae Stika went to Navarre Sunday after church for dinner out.
About 20 to 25 people attended the community fun night Sunday evening at the senior center to enjoy games and snacks. Game nights are held the first Sunday of each month through the winter. The next will be a Christmas party Dec. 2 with a visit from Santa.
Leona Kleiber spent Oct. 26 to Nov. 4 with Dean and Becky Routh, Allison, Melody, and Danielle at Augusta. On Saturday evening they attended the Butler County 4-H achievement banquet at El Dorado. Melody was named county champion in performing arts and public speaking. Allison was county reading champion. Danielle received awards in performing arts, visual arts, and foods and nutrition. All three girls received their silver pins. During Leona's visit all visited Aaron and Holly Routh and Easton of Augusta.
Georgia Spohn attended the Lions Club pancake feed Saturday at Durham and then visited Marguerite Goertz and her daughter, Benita at Hillsboro.
Relatives here have heard from Daniel Schaller that he has been promoted to master gunnery sergeant, a rank achieved by only one percent of enlisted Marines. Schaller, who is stationed at Virginia Beach, Va., is the husband of the former Tondalayo Frantz, who grew up here.
Tony Young of Goessel visited his aunt, Lois Sklenar on Saturday.
Tom and Lori Moldenhauer spent Friday afternoon at Salina and enjoyed supper out.
Kathy and Carl Hubbard of Wellington and Barney Bernhardt of Wichita met Adeline Bernhardt Friday at Peabody. They attended the funeral of Kenneth Grosse at St. Paul Lutheran Church. In the afternoon, the Hubbards came to Adeline's home for a visit.
Leona Kleiber visited Pearl Belton Oct. 25.
Supper guests Oct. 31 at the home of Frank and Anna Mae Stika were Tom and Lori Moldenhauer and Nikki and Ronnie and Lisa Hanschu, James and Anna and Anna's friend.
