Tampa: Brunner benefit attended by many from the area

A large crowd attended a benefit for Rita Brunner Sunday noon at the senior center. The event was a caring and community project of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. Holy Redeemer Altar Society also worked on it. A hamburger fry was followed by a drawing and auction. Many winners in the drawing donated their prizes to be auctioned. The event was a notable success.

Dee Duggan went to Herington Monday morning to take Kaylee Hall and Gracie and Hannah Peterson on an outing. They visited the library and enjoyed lunch out.

The Backhus family gathered Sunday at the Lutheran church for a family dinner. Those attending were Wilbert and Donna Backhus, Herb Backhus, Ella Heidemann, Ellen and John Hill, Emil and Gladiola Backhus, Mike and Jennifer Hill, Melissa, Sarah, and Allison, Jenette Heidemann, Otto and Frieda Bentz, Mike and Janet Anderson and Rosalyn, Al and Jane Heidemann, Harry and Elaine Backhus.

Debbie Giocabetti, Robert Walker, Jami Giocabetti and Lexi, Harold Nunn, Alan and Virginia Bentz, Cheri Bentz and Tyler, Gail and Sue Johnson, Linda Strome, Sonny and Mardee Backhus, Nathan, Gabriel, and Jessica, Gary and Jacque Backhus, Kodee and Hannah, Jean Sherman, Brandy and Emily Kvasnicka, John Backhus, Alma Meyer, and Dennis Meyer.

Tom and Dee Duggan attended "Ragtime in Ramona" Sunday evening at Lost Springs.

Ryan Spohn, Adam and Lauren were Saturday overnight and Sunday guests of Gary and Carole Spohn. Additional Sunday dinner guests were Steve Spohn of Hope and Georgia Spohn.

Adeline Bernhardt and Leona Kleiber accompanied Lynn and Peggy Kleiber, Andrea and Nicholas Sunday evening to Marion. After enjoying supper out, they attended the Boy Scout court of honor at Eastmoor United Methodist Church. Nicholas was among the scouts receiving a second class award.

Rebecca and Emily Nottingham of Ozawkie were Sunday afternoon visitors of Tillie Hein.

Ken and Marcia Powers of California camped Saturday night in the park. They had flown to Delaware to start a walking journey back to California. If you want to know more about their adventure, their web site is gottawalk.com.

Many Tampa people as well as relatives and friends from out of town attended the wedding of Maria Jirak and Travis Gear Saturday evening at Pilsen. The bride's brother, Father John Jirak, was the main celebrant at the nuptial Mass. Kristine Jirak was her sister's maid of honor.

Frank and Anna Mae Stika attended the funeral Saturday morning of Harry Cheever at Herington. The Cheever family has the sympathy of the Tampa community.

A number of relatives and friends from here attended the Saturday wedding of Emily Diener and Kent Nichols at Hillsboro.

Members of the Red Hat Society were recognized Saturday at the wedding of Sue Olson (one of the members) and Gail McIntyre at Herington. They were seated together and had a photograph taken. The group included Betty Schlesener, Karolyn Schlesener, Rhea Kolling, Rose Mary Deines, Helen Sorenson, Alice Bell, Phyllis Allen, Liz Monnington, Barbara Askew, Mary Christiansen, Adeline Bernhardt, Leona Kleiber, and Dee Duggan. Also among those attending were Tom Duggan and Deb Hall and Kaylee.

A number of relatives and friends from Tampa attended Saturday morning funeral services for Ida Frantz at Hillsboro. Her family has the sympathy of this community.

Frank Stika experienced a fainting episode Saturday and spent the night at the Herington hospital. He now is home and doing well.

Jim and Mary Clemmer have received word that Jim's brother-in-law, Milo Sutton of Los Angeles has died. Jim and Mary also have the community's sympathy.

Visitors of Lucille Kerbs as she recuperates from eye surgery are Russ and Julie Kerbs and Rustyn, Adeline Bernhardt, Leona Kleiber, Ashton Kerbs, and April Kerbs.

Anna Weber performed at Lana's School of Dance acrobatic and dance recital Thursday and Friday evenings at Hilltop Auditorium at Herington. Lisa Hanschu also performed in a mothers' number. Among those attending were Frank and Anna Mae Stika, Lori Moldenhauer, Ronnie Hanschu, and James Weber.

Leona Kleiber and Adeline Bernhardt attended the potluck supper and vacation Bible school program Friday evening at the Lutheran church.

Carolyn Duggan of Hutchinson visited Tom and Dee Duggan Friday and accompanied them to Herington for the Lana's School of Dance recital. Kaylee Hall was one of the performers. Deb Hall also was in attendance.

Nikki Stenzel was chosen to attend the Lions state band camp June 7-11. She was one of 170 Leos participating. Lori Moldenhauer attended the jazz concert Friday evening at Rice Auditorium and the band concert Saturday morning at Collin gymnasium.

Leona Kleiber was a Thursday supper guest of Lynn and Peggy Kleiber and Nicholas.

Frank Stika took James Weber and Steve Antoszyk fishing on Friday. They went to Frank's favorite childhood fishing spot as well as Herington City Lake.

Leona Kleiber attended the funeral Wednesday afternoon of Harry Heiser at Strassburg Baptist Church. Heiser was a longtime resident of the Tampa area before retiring to Hillsboro. His family has the sympathy of the community.

Leona Kleiber was unintentionally omitted last week from the list of those attending the funeral of Milda Krauter.
