Tampa: Catholic youth quiz teams take top honors

The Catholic youth of Holy Family Parish participated Sunday afternoon in a quiz meet at Marion. Tampa's three high school teams took first, second, and third. The two seventh and eighth grade teams placed first and second, and the two fifth and sixth grade teams placed second and fourth. Those participating on the Tampa teams included Alisha Barney, Gloria Belton, Kevin Mueller, Sean Leihy, Kristine Jirak, Julie Rziha, Amanda Bina, Tyrell Blecha, Isaac Leihy, Adam Kristek, Nathan Barney, Paul Haslouer, Emmet Blecha, Nick Kleiber, Jacob Jirak, Matt Jirgens, and Philip Haslouer.

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs and Russ and Julie Kerbs and Rustyn went to Salina Sunday afternoon for a party at the home of Tim and Marchelle Kerbs in celebration of Tim's 50th birthday. Also present were Ashton Kerbs, April Kerbs, Molly Kerbs, Connie Thompson and Taylor, and other relatives and friends.

Tom and Dee Duggan attended the old settlers' luncheon Sunday at Hope. The event was a fund-raiser for the museum.

Many Tampa people, as well as relatives and friends from out of town, attended funeral services for Eleanor Murphy Saturday morning at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Eleanor will be greatly missed by everyone, and the Tampa community grieves with her family.

A number of Tampa women attended a bridal shower for Emily Diener, bride-elect of Kent Nichols, Saturday afternoon at Durham Baptist Church. Hostesses for the occasion were Eleanor Herbel, Betty Meier, Carol Ollenburger, Valera Hamm, and Jane Vajnar. Special guests included the bride's mother and grandmother, Donna Diener and Arlene Pankratz, and aunts, Ann Kopper and Krista and Sharon Diener and Sarah.

Tom Moffitt of Taft, Calif., and Frank Moffitt of Marion visited Friday afternoon with Adeline Bernhardt.

Lori Moldenhauer and Nikki were hostesses Saturday evening for a commercial party at their home. Julee Slater gave a cooking demonstration, and the group enjoyed a buffet supper. Guests included Raylene Hajek, Irene Beames, Anna Mae Stika, Eleanor Herbel, Carol Zaideman, Tina Clement, Jane Vajnar, Monica Svoboda, Vickie and Raschelle Jirak, Lisa Hanschu and Anna, and Anna Kristek.

Deb Hall and Kaylee of Herington spent Thursday through Saturday with Tom and Dee Duggan, while Deb was recuperating from a heart catheterization.

Georgia Spohn attended the Learning in Retirement program April 4 at Tabor College in Hillsboro. Tona Leiker spoke on the history of nursing in Kansas.

Lucille Kerbs was an April 6 afternoon visitor of Leona Kleiber and Adeline Bernhardt.

Don and Carolyn Srajer of Omaha, Neb., spent from April 4-6, here visiting Tillie Hein and Jim and Kris Srajer, Grant and Cole. They were en route home, after spending two months in Arizona.

Among the people attending the ordination of Bishop Michael Jackal April 4 at the Church of the Magdalene in Wichita were Tom and Dee Duggan, Francis and Mary Jirak, Ron and Rose Jirak, and Lynn Kleiber and Nicholas. A reception followed the ordination.

Knights of Columbus and their spouses and guests enjoyed a dinner April 3 at Country Dreams near Marion. Those attending included Father Mark Weseley, Tom and Dee Duggan, Francis and Mary Jirak, Steve and Vickie Jirak, Ron and Rose Jirak, Margaret Jirak, John and Carla Hajek, Martin and Catherine Hajek, Jim and Kris Srajer, Jerry and Jeanne Rziha, John and Kathy Oborny, Mike and Gail Lorson, Mike and Vicki Pauley, Maurice Lorson, Fred Lorson, Ralph and Margaret Dillon, and Kenny and Lisa Stroda.

Carl and Kathy Hubbard of Wellington and Barney Bernhardt of Wichita were Sunday visitors of Adeline Bernhardt.

Goessel is stop

on Moran's tour

Congressman Jerry Moran recently announced he will be in Marion County and the other 68 counties he represents during his ninth annual Big First Listening Tour.

A town hall meeting will be held from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. June 1 at Mennonite Heritage Museum, Goessel.

"Rediscovering Kansas" will focus on building awareness of Kansas tourism sites within the First District.

All events are open to the public. Moran will travel more than 5,000 miles and plans to meet with thousands of people.
