Reuben and Lucille Kerbs went to Wichita Saturday to watch the Wichita State University baseball team play the Creighton Blue Jays. Their grandson Reuben Kerbs pitches on the Shocker team. Also in his cheering section were Glenn and Eloise Kerbs and Clayton of Dodge City and Ashton.Kerbs and Jesse Smith of Salina.
Adeline Bernhardt and Leona Kleiber enjoyed dinner in Salina Monday.
Tillie Hein and Martha Melcher attended the funeral of Theo Kroupa Monday morning in Pilsen. Kroupa was a long-time resident of this community before entering the rest home at Marion and had many friends here.
Gary and Carole Spohn and Georgia Spohn enjoyed dinner at the café Sunday.
Reuben and Lucille Kerbs went to Emporia Sunday to watch the Centre soccer team play in a tournament. Russ and Julie Kerbs were among the parents attending. Rustyn Kerbs was on the team. April Kerbs of Emporia also came to the tournament and went out to eat with her grandparents after the game. The Centre team placed second.
Kaylee Hall of Herington accompanied her grandparents Tom and Dee Duggan on Sunday to the benefit for the TEEN club in Herington.
Barney Bernhardt of Wichita and Leona Kleiber were Sunday dinner guests of Adeline Bernhardt.
Eleanor Murphy, Martha Melcher, Tillie Hein, and Sean Leihy attended the card party in Herington Sunday evening.
Paul and Edna Backhus were honored with a dinner party at the senior center Saturday evening in celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary with 170 guests in attendance. Hosts for the event were their children and grandchildren, Bev and Tom Reid of rural Marion, Michael and Jennifer Jay of Hillsboro, Brad and Kathy Backhus and Jason Backhus. The social and dinner hour was followed by entertainment from "Bob and the Boys" and a family video compiled by Sara Houdyshell. All living members of the honorees' bridal party were in attendance including the best man Alvin Bernhardt and his wife Grace of Phoenix, Ariz.; the maid of honor Phyllis Mueller; bridesmaid Ophelia Jacobson and husband Don of Hope; candle lighter Lydia Evans and husband Keith of Haysville; flower girl JoAnn Thompson and husband Bart of Denver, Colo., and organist Betty Mueller. The rest of the honored couple's siblings also present included Vic Backhus of Herington, Paul and Emma Paulson of Mount Ida, Ark., Martin Backhus of Grain Valley, Mo., Bill and Ruth Taylor of Shawnee, Mildred Bernhardt of Lyons, and Gerald and Alice Yoakim of Wichita.
Cecilia Rziha earned a I rating on her vocal selections Saturday at the state music festival in Wichita.
Greg Sklenar was a weekend guest of Lois Sklenar and Valerie Hampton. Greg and Valerie went to Springfield, Mo., on Saturday.
Helen Benson of Raytown, Mo., was a Saturday overnight guest of Adeline Bernhardt. They attended the Backhus anniversary Saturday .
Gary and Carole Spohn spent from April 22 to 26 with Ryan and Claudette Spohn, Adam and Laurel in Iowa City, Iowa, and enjoyed getting acquainted with their new granddaughter.

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs went to Abilene April 22 to watch the Abilene High School girls' softball team play Clay Center. Their granddaughter Allison Phillips is on the Abilene team. Doug and Connie Thompson and Taylor of Abilene also were present.
Members of the Tampa Triple T's 4-H club and a few guests gathered at the ball park April 21 for a clean-up day. They picked up trash, mowed grass, and painted the silver posts around the field. Because of the wind, the rest of the paint project was postponed to a later date. 4-H'ers who helped included Alex Hajek, Amy Hajek, Rustyn Kerbs, Tyler Klenda, Karyn Leihy, Meghan Leihy, Isaac Leihy, Sean Leihy, Kristin Mueller, Breanna Svoboda, Cole Svoboda, Anna Weber, James Weber, and Allie Will. Guests were Aaron Bina, Mary Leihy, and Patrick Klenda. Adults helping were Terry Klenda and Monica Leihy.
