Tampa: Dinner honors Kleiber's sister from Washington

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs were among those from here attending a benefit soup dinner Sunday for the family of Carroll Shields at the Lutheran church in Lincolnville.

A family dinner at the home of Leona Kleiber Sunday honored her sister, Ellen Erickson of Tacoma, Wash., who is spending some time here visiting relatives. Others attending were Dean and Becky Routh, Melody, Allison, and Danielle of Augusta, Jill Vinduska of Manhattan, Daniel and Melissa Stuchlik and Barney and Linda Bernhardt and Megan of Wichita, Carl and Kathy Hubbard and Clint of Wellington, Adeline Bernhardt, Lynn and Peggy Kleiber, Amanda, Andrea, and Nicholas and their friends, John Larson of Canton and Charlie of Augusta. Due to illness, Terry and Cindy Vinduska and Peggy Kleiber were unable to attend. Homemade ice cream and cake were served in the afternoon.

Frank and Anna Mae Stika are spending this week with James and Anna Weber, while Ronnie and Lisa Hanschu are in Houston, Texas, for Lisa's bone marrow harvest.

Jerry and Jeanne Rziha and Julie went to Kansas City Sunday for Gene and Dorothy Jilka's 50th wedding anniversary celebration. Also in attendance were Wayne and Shannon Rziha and Cecilia Marie of Tulsa, Okla., Janie Rziha and John and Jeanne Rziha, Michael, Christopher, Joseph, and Timothy of Atchison, and Diane Herron, Andrew and Peter of Wichita. Diane and sons were overnight guests of Jerry, Jeanne, and Julie.

Sunday dinner guests of Paul and Edna Backhus were Tom and Bev Reid of Marion County Lake, Mike and Jennifer Jay of Hillsboro, Ron and Jody Heath and Tyler of Salina, Brad and Kathy Backhus and Jason Backhus. The occasion was a celebration of Jason's 21st birthday and Tom and Bev's 20th wedding anniversary. Phyllis Mueller and Danielle Heath were unable to attend because of illness.

Martha Melcher, Tillie Hein, Eleanor Murphy, and Sean Leihy went Sunday evening to the card party in Herington.

Helen Benson of Raytown, Mo., and her neighbor Shirley were after-church visitors Sunday of Ellen Erickson of Tacoma, Wash., at the home of her sister, Adeline Bernhardt.

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs went to Hutchinson Saturday. Reuben attended a union meeting at the Best Western Sun Dome, where members' wives joined them for dinner.

Karma Kraft was a Saturday overnight guest of Nikki Stenzel.

Many from this area attended the funeral of Brett Cushenbery Saturday morning at the Methodist church in Hillsboro followed by lunch at the Baptist church in Durham. Brett died tragically as the result of a rodeo injury. Everyone who knew him grieves with his family.

A standing-room-only crowd of people from all over turned out Saturday for the benefit for Lisa Hanschu at Papa T's in Hope. Lori Moldenhauer organized the benefit for Lisa.

Lydia Evans of Haysville was a Saturday dinner guest of Adeline Bernhardt and her house guest, Ellen Erickson of Tacoma, Wash.

The sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Wichita were hosts Saturday for a rosary festival. Sister Mary Cora Rziha, who grew up in this community, is a member of the order. Among those attending were Wayne and Shannon Rziha and Cecilia Marie of Tulsa, Okla., Diane Herron and Peter of Wichita, Janie Rziha of Atchison, Cecilia Rziha of Hays, and Jeanne and Julie Rziha.

Paul and Edna Backhus were among those attending the benefit Saturday evening for Lisa Hanschu in Hope.

Leona Kleiber and Ellen Erickson were Friday supper guests of Adeline Bernhardt.

Janie Rziha of Atchison spent from Wednesday night until Sunday with Jerry and Jeanne Rziha and Julie for fall break. On Thursday evening, she joined Jeanne and Julie in attending the choral music concert at Hays. Cecilia Rziha was among the Fort Hays State University students performing.

Mary Clemmer visited Helen Schwartzman Thursday.

Adeline Bernhardt went to Wichita Thursday to pick up her sister, Ellen Erickson of Tacoma, Wash., at the airport. They were dinner guests of Barney and Linda Bernhardt and Megan of Wichita. Then they went on to Wellington, where they were supper and overnight guests of Carl and Kathy Hubbard and Clint.

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs went to Salina Wednesday for an appointment and met their son, Tim Kerbs, for coffee.

Mary Clemmer and Adeline Bernhardt were recent visitors of Lois Sklenar and Valerie Hampton.

Sunflower Senior Citizens met Tuesday at the senior center for a potluck dinner, business meeting and card Bingo. The hostesses, Eleanor Murphy and Magdalen Dvorak, decorated with a fall theme and bouquets of sunflowers on the tables. Others present included Jim and Mary Clemmer, Tom and Dee Duggan, Frank Patton, Margaret Jirak, Adeline Bernhardt, Leona Kleiber, Martha Melcher, Tillie Hein, Carole Spohn, Bonnie Crandall, Shirley Krause, Maxine Mueller, Helen Costello, Ruby Vinduska, and Jane Vajnar.

Rustyn Kerbs was a Tuesday supper guest of his grandparents, Reuben and Lucille Kerbs.
