Tampa fire crew takes first at Octoberfest

The Tampa fire crew took first place Saturday at a competition among area fire departments to exhibit fire fighting skills at the Octoberfest in Lincolnville. Team members were Aaron Abeldt, Don Mueller, and Tim Svoboda.
Some members of the American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary met Monday afternoon with district officers on their fall tour.
Donald and Carolyn Srajer of Omaha, Neb., came Monday to spend a few days visiting Tillie Hein and Jim and Kris Srajer, Grant and Cole. They were en route home from Branson, Mo.
Relatives here have received word of the death of Esther Cole of Osage City. She is a native of this area and a sister of Edna Mueller and Erich Utech. Her family has the sympathy of the Tampa community.
Eleanor Murphy was a Sunday evening visitor of Helen Schwartzman.
Reuben and Lucille Kerbs went to McPherson Sunday afternoon to watch the Centre soccer team play the McPherson team at Eisenhower Elementary. Their grandson, Rustyn Kerbs, was on the Centre team.
Deb Hall and Kaylee of Herington spent Sunday with Tom and Dee Duggan. All attended the Knights of Columbus breakfast.
Gary and Carole Spohn attended a hayrack ride and party at Marion Sunday evening sponsored by the Christian church there.
Sunday dinner guests of Frank and Anna Mae Stika were Ronnie and Lisa Hanschu, James and Anna, Danny Denham, and Tom and Lori Moldenhauer. All except Danny were supper guests. Nikki Stenzel joined them.
Adeline Bernhardt visited Milda Krauter at Marion Manor in Marion Sunday afternoon.
Tillie Hein visited Edna Mueller and her family Monday morning.
Georgia Spohn attended a hamburger fry Sunday after morning worship at the Christian church in Hope.
John and Pat Schwartzman of Salina visited his mother, Helen Schwartzman, on Sunday. After attending church, they all went to the Knights of Columbus breakfast.
Bob and Phyl Kenney of Lincoln, Neb., spent the weekend with Leona Kleiber. Lynn Kleiber and Andrea were additional Saturday afternoon visitors. On Sunday, Phyl and Leona attended the Kleiber family reunion at the Scout House in Hillsboro. After the reunion, Gene and Marianne Kleiber of Hays stopped at Leona's home to visit with her and her houseguests.
Reuben and Lucille Kerbs went to Hutchinson Saturday. Reuben attended a meeting of the Local 157 Union at Best Western, while Lucille did some shopping. They enjoyed dinner later.
Tom and Dee Duggan went to Dallas Redger's 75th birthday party in Durham Saturday afternoon. They had an opportunity to visit with Tom's sister and her husband, Don and Betty Frick of Topeka.
Among those attending Octoberfest at Lincolnville Saturday were Frank and Anna Mae Stika, James and Anna Weber, Danny Denham, and Lori Moldenhauer. They watched Nikki Stenzel march in the parade with the Centre band.
A group of family and friends gathered Saturday morning for a graveside service at Saint Mary's Cemetery in memory of Margaret Pleiser Smart. She died a few months ago, but her ashes were brought here for burial. Father Stephen Gronert conducted the service. Others present were her daughter and grandchildren, Janet, Erin, and Tim Driskell of Orange County, Calif.; sisters, Florence and Ted Dimock of Hawthorne, Calif., and Lucy Hughes of Florence; brother, John and Joan Pleiser of Inglewood, Calif.; nieces and nephews, Jennifer Waldron of Agoura, Calif., John Pleiser Jr., of Inglewood, Calif., Kevin and Teresa Clutterbuck and children of Grapevine, Texas, and Elizabeth Edwards of Athens, Ga.; a cousin, Alice Weber of McPherson; and friends, Fred Moffitt of McPherson, Lorraine Havlik of Marion, and Jane Vajnar. The service was followed by dinner at the café. The Pleiser family grew up in Tampa and attended school here. Lucy lived here again for awhile around 1990. The family has the sympathy of the Tampa community.
Lynn and Peggy Kleiber and Nicholas were Sunday evening visitors of Leona Kleiber.
Deb Hall of Herington and Tom and Dee Duggan attended the benefit auction in Herington Saturday to raise money for the Thermal Imaging Camera Fund. Augmenting earlier fund-raisers, the auction brought in enough money to buy the camera for the Herington fire department. Deb was one of the most active organizers of the effort.
Earl Mueller and Adeline Bernhardt were winners in the drawing for free meals at the café sponsored by ATMOS Energy.
Reuben and Lucille Kerbs went to Abilene Friday afternoon. Connie Thompson and Taylor joined them to go out to eat.
Peggy Kleiber visited Leona Kleiber the evening of Oct. 2.
Pastor Clark Davis and six members of the Saint John's Lutheran Women's Missionary League went to the Lutheran Home in Herington Wednesday afternoon to bring a program, visit, and take cookies to the residents. Pastor Davis gave an inspiring message. Women joining in the singing and serving treats to the residents were Adeline Bernhardt, Evelyn Hensley, Leona Kleiber, Joyce Medley, Betty Mueller, and Edna Mueller. After the program, the women stopped at the Dairy Queen for treats.
Adeline Bernhardt and Leona Kleiber took cakes to Marion Manor in Marion Oct. 1 to help Milda Krauter celebrate her birthday with the other residents. Leona's birthday also was being celebrated.
Jessie Grady of El Reno, Okla., spent Sept. 25 to 29 with Bonnie Crandall.
Jeanne Rziha, Cecilia and Julie, Dana Depo, and Kristin Mueller spent the weekend of Sept. 28-30 in Atchison. Jeanne and Julie were houseguests of John and Jeanne Rziha, Michael, Christopher, and Joseph. The other girls stayed with Janie Rziha. Cecilia and Kristin had a college visit at Benedictine College.
Cindy Vinduska visited her mother, Leona Kleiber, the afternoon of Sept. 28.
