The board of Marion County Fire District #7, which serves Tampa along with Blaine and Clark townships, was recently informed by the office of Congressman Jerry Moran that they have been approved for a $64,573 FEMA grant for 90 per cent of the cost of a new fire truck. Fire chief Jesse Brunner, sub-chief Donald Mueller, and others worked unsuccessfully to get the grant last year, but were successful this year. Since Brunner is retiring as chief, he will be leaving a fine legacy to the community.
A number of Tampa people attended the Vacation Bible School program Sunday evening at the Durham Baptist church, followed by a pie and ice cream social and a pie auction. The Bible School theme had been SonHarvest, with farming and gardening related to the fruit of the Spirit. The pies that were auctioned had been made by the children on Friday. Daily offerings, plus the offering at the program, raised enough money to continue the support of three children in the Chain of Love homes in Brazil.

They visited Durango and rode the Durango-Silverton train. Other highlights included the view from Pike's Peak, Santa's workshop, and Manitou Springs.
Reuben and Lucille Kerbs attended a baseball tournament at Council Grove the evening of July 6. Their grandson Rustyn Kerbs was playing.
News was a bit sparse this week. The sweltering heat apparently had many people choosing to sit in front of the fan and/or air conditioner.
