Tampa: Friends observe Kleiber's birthday

Those joining Leona Kleiber Monday morning for a belated celebration of her birthday at the café were Adeline Bernhardt, Peggy Kleiber, Lucille Kerbs, Joyce Medley, Betty Mueller, Edna Mueller, Maxine Mueller, Lois Sklenar, and Lola Teetzen. Several invited guests were unable to attend.
At their meeting Monday evening, members of the American Legion Auxiliary finalized plans for the flea market to be held Saturday at the Legion hall starting at 8:30 a.m. Hostesses for the meeting were Bonnie Crandall and Jane Vajnar.
Eleanor Murphy and Jim and Mary Clemmer were Sunday evening visitors of Helen Schwartzman.
A number of Tampa people attended the Harvest Mission Festival Sunday at the Durham Baptist church. The featured speaker was Betty Mantay of Edmonton, Alberta, who has served as a missionary in Cameroon for about 40 years. A potluck dinner followed the morning worship and light refreshments were served after the evening service.
Leona Kleiber and Adeline Bernhardt visited Milda Krauter Sunday afternoon at Marion Manor in Marion.
Tampa people attending the Eisenhower birthday commemoration at the Eisenhower Center in Abilene Saturday included Jim and Mary Clemmer and Lori Moldenhauer and Nikki. Former President George Bush and David and Julie Eisenhower were speakers at the event.
Mary Beisel, resident at the Lutheran Home in Herington, died early Sunday morning. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Ramona. She was an aunt of Anna Mae Stika. Her family has the sympathy of the Tampa community.
Georgia Spohn and Jane Vajnar were among those attending the Learning in Retirement program at Tabor College in Hillsboro Thursday morning. The speaker from the Kansas Humanities Council was Dr. Phillip Thomas, who talked about the westward movement of the pioneers and showed slides.
Reuben and Lucille Kerbs went to Abilene the evening of Oct. 8 for the Abilene High School Volleyball Round-up 2002. Four teams played in the tournament, and one of the players was their granddaughter, Allison Phillips. Doug and Connie Thompson and Taylor also were present.
Sunflower Senior Citizens held their monthly meeting and potluck Oct. 8 at the senior center with 14 members and two guests present. Guests were Nancy Hatterman and Jane Vajnar, who became a new member. Margaret Jirak and Helen Costello were hostesses. The group visited the fire station, where Jesse Brunner and Ron Mueller showed equipment on the fire trucks and ambulance and the personal gear for the fire fighters.
The eighth birthday of Anna Weber was celebrated the evening of Sept. 22 with a party in the park. Birthday cakes, ice cream, Kool-Aid, and tea were served to Anna, Ronnie and Lisa Hanschu, James Weber, Tom and Lori Moldenhaurer, Nikki Stenzel, Frank and Anna Mae Stika, Paul and Edna Backhus, Marianne Wyatt, James Wyatt, Justin Deines, Karen and Carrie Carlson, Mikayla Antoszyk, Julie Deines, Dylan and Makenzie, Oaklan Jenkins, Meghan Leihy, Ryan Doherty, Kent and Dillon Whitehair, Kent Sly, Shanna Paige, Kelci, Taylor, and Katlyn Sly, Jesse, Margret, and Becky Perry of Beloit, and Danny Denham. Games were played and the children enjoyed a piñata.
