Tampa: Harvest proceeds smoothly

Most farmers in the Tampa area have finished cutting wheat. Once the fields got dry enough to cut, the harvest went smoothly with quality and yields better than had been anticipated.

Relatives and friends from here attended funeral services for Elmer Ettridge Tuesday morning at the Methodist church in Hope. He was the father of Carole Spohn. She and her family have the sympathy of the Tampa community.

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs joined other relatives and friends at a Topeka restaurant Sunday afternoon for a surprise golden wedding celebration for Al and Lila Gooding of Topeka. All of Lucille's siblings were able to be present, along with Lila's sister and her husband, the couple's wedding attendants, and many nieces and nephews. All enjoyed supper together and shared memories of Al and Lila's wedding day.

Lynn and Peggy Kleiber, Amanda, Andrea, and Nicholas, Adeline Bernhardt, and Leona Kleiber attended a music recital by Goldie Steely's students Sunday afternoon at the Methodist church in Burdick. A social hour followed in the fellowship hall. Amanda, Andrea, and Nicholas all played the piano and Amanda and Andrea sang.

Matt Bevan of Kansas City brought Janie Rziha home and spent the weekend with Jerry and Jeanne Rziha, David, Cecilia, and Julie. Janie remained here to spend the week with her family.

A number of Tampa people attended funeral services for Josephine Frick Tuesday afternoon at the Methodist church in Hillsboro. Her family has the sympathy of the Tampa community.

Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Pankratz from California visited Georgia Spohn on Monday. They enjoyed dinner at the café.

Sunday supper guests of Jim and Mary Clemmer and Ron Clemmer were Shawn and Karin Clemmer and Blayke and Dale and Sandy Clemmer and Cassie of Salina, Charlie Clemmer, who is home on leave from the United States Marine Corps, and Jane Vajnar.

Tom and Lori Moldenhauer went to Lincoln, Neb., Saturday to attend a car show. They met his brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Nancy Moldenhauer, there.

Stephanie Claasen of Marion, Martha Melcher, and Eleanor Murphy were Sunday evening visitors of Helen Schwartzman.

Lori Moldenhauer and Nikki, Anna Mae Stika, and James and Anna Weber joined others from Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Herington Friday and went on a tour bus to Kansas City for a Royals baseball game. Since the Royals won, the day was considered a success.

Thursday evening visitors of Willis and Eleanor Herbel and Jon were Kevin and Paula Herbel, Aaron, Danea, Joshua, Caleb, Jacob, and Karina of Durham and DeLayne and Christine Herbel, Landon, Erich, and Carson of Lehigh. Landon and Joshua's baseball team had a game at the ball field here. After watching them play, their grandparents treated the clan to an end-of-season celebration at their home.

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs spent Thursday evening watching grandchildren play baseball. After attending the Centre-Hillsboro game here in which Rustyn Kerbs played, they went to Hope where they saw their granddaughter, Allison Phillips, play on the Abilene Ike's team. Connie Thompson and Taylor of Abilene also were present.

Frank and Anna Mae Stika, Tom and Lori Moldenhauer, and Ronnie and Lisa Hanschu, James and Anna enjoyed supper in Abilene June 26 in celebration of Anna Mae's birthday. After supper they came to the Stika home for birthday cake and ice cream.

Dinner guests of Reuben and Lucille Kerbs on June 25 were Allison Phillips and Taylor Thompson of Abilene and Rustyn Kerbs. Taylor returned home with Allison after spending several days with her grandparents.
