Tampa: Ice cream social is Sunday

Prairie Pals invites the community to an ice cream social in the city park at 7 p.m. Sunday. Come and enjoy ice cream, cookies, iced tea, and visiting with your neighbors.

Alma Meyer was honored Sunday afternoon with an open house at St. John's Lutheran Church in celebration of her 90th birthday. Hosts for the occasion were her children and grandchildren: Dennis Meyer of Tampa, the Rev. Donald and Marlene Brunner of Westfield, Wis.; Dr. Dawn and Jeff Larson, A.J. and Lindsay of Yankton, S.D., Dr. Lori Brunner of Omaha, Neb., Mark Brunner and Tami Brunner and Alicia of Fremont, Neb., Joel Brunner of Bloomington, Minn., and Paul Brunner of Lincoln, Neb. Many relatives and friends came to help Alma celebrate, including seven of her brothers and sisters and three of her late husband Ernest's siblings. She also received many phone calls from relatives who were unable to attend.

JuliAnne Chisholm is spending this week at church camp at Camp Wah-Shun-Ga.

Eleanor Murphy and Martha Melcher were Sunday evening visitors of Helen Schwartzman.

Dale and Sandy Clemmer of Salina were Sunday supper guests of Jim and Mary Clemmer and Ron Clemmer.

Susie Rziha is spending several weeks with Jerry and Jeanne Rziha, David, Cecilia, and Julie.

Gary and Carole Spohn spent from Thursday to Monday in Iowa City, Iowa, visiting their son and family, Ryan and Claudette Spohn and Adam.

Paul and Edna Backhus attended the annual Water Well Association picnic Saturday evening at Cottonwood Point and the hog roast on Sunday at Marion Country Club. Michael and Jennifer Jay of Hillsboro, Bev and Tom Reid of Marion, Brad and Kathy Backhus, Jason Backhus, and Sara Houdyshell joined them on Sunday.

Helen Jean McGonigle of Wichita, Larry Parsons of Cheney, and John and Pat Schwartzman of Salina were Sunday visitors of Helen Schwartzman.

A number of relatives and friends from here attended the funeral service Saturday and the rosary Friday evening for Glenn Kurtenbach in Herington. His family has the sympathy of the Tampa community.

Julie Rziha and Amanda Bina spent from Wednesday to Friday at Totus Tuus camp at King's Camp near Goddard.

Anna Mae Stika, Anna Weber, and Lori Moldenhauer and Nikki went to Salina Saturday.

Tillie Hein and Martha Melcher were among those attending the rosary for Glenn Kurtenbach.

Tom and Dee Duggan attended the production of "Nunsense II" Thursday evening at the Great Plains Theater in Abilene.

Tom and Maxine Knight of Carthage, Tenn., spent Friday and Saturday with Jim and Mary Clemmer. They enjoyed supper in Smolan and did some sightseeing.

Frank and Anna Mae Stika, Tom and Lori Moldenhauer, and Ronnie and Lisa Hanschu attended the Vacation Bible School program at Herington Friday evening. James and Anna Weber and Nikki Stenzel performed in the program and Lori played the piano. After the program, Ryan Dougherty and Dillon Whitehair joined Ronnie, Lisa, James, and Anna for swimming at the pool with other VBS families. Tom, Lori, and Nikki went out for pizza. Nicole Potocnik also attended VBS, but did not perform in the program.

Deb Hall and Kaylee of Herington and Tom and Dee Duggan spent the weekend of July 20-22 in Lee's Summit, Mo., with Darla Hall and Adam. They celebrated Dee's and Darla's birthdays. Adam returned with them to spend a couple of weeks here. Last week he spent most of his time in Herington. Tom brought Adam and Kaylee to Tampa to be Sunday overnight and Monday guests of their grandparents.

Adeline Bernhardt and Leona Kleiber enjoyed dinner in Salina July 24.

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs and Rustyn Kerbs went to Topeka July 21 to attend the Gooding family reunion.
