Tampa: Jirak family attends reunion at Waverly

The annual Jirak family reunion was held Saturday at Waverly with Tom and Ann Collins of Williamsburg and Erin Collins of Olathe as hosts. A fiesta theme was carried out in the decorations and food. An afternoon of games was followed by a Mass celebrated by Father John Jirak at Saint Patrick's Church in Emerald. To top off the evening the group enjoyed a swimming party.

Shannon Rziha, Cecilia, and Anthony of Tulsa, Okla., arrived here Friday to spend this week with Jerry and Jeanne Rziha, Janie and Julie. They attended the wedding Saturday of Rita Stuchlik and Kelby Schawe at Pilsen.
Deb Hall and Kaylee of Herington and Tom and Dee Duggan attended a reception for Nick and Jennifer (Dillon) Schroeder Saturday evening in Herington.
Jerry Vajnar, former resident of the Tampa community, will have an auction at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at 316 Grandview in Newton just east of the high school. As he nears his 90th birthday, Vajnar has decided to move into an assisted living facility.
Reuben and Lucille Kerbs attended the "GPTF Kidz Broadway Cabaret 2005" Saturday afternoon at the Great Plains Theater in Abilene. Their granddaughter, Taylor Thompson, sang a solo and participated in several group numbers. Doug and Connie Thompson and Allison also were present.
Leona Kleiber visited Pearl Belton Saturday morning.
Phyllis Mueller accompanied Jody Heath and Danielle of Salina on a trip to Oklahoma City, Okla., Thursday through Sunday. Dani attended a gymnastics camp at Bart Conner Academy with Conner and members of the Oklahoma University gymnastics team as instructors. Phyllis and Jody visited the memorial at the Murrah Building and enjoyed some shopping.
Linda and Megan Bernhardt and two friends from Wichita were Saturday morning visitors of Adeline Bernhardt.
A group of Red Hat Ladies and some of their husbands enjoyed dinner out and attended the production of "Chaps" at Great Plains Theater in Abilene Thursday evening. Those attending included Gail and Sue McIntyre, Everett and Rhea Kolling, Liz Monnington, Barbara Askew, Joyce Cox, Kathy Chaput, Adeline Bernhardt, Joyce Medley, Rose Mary Deines, Leona Kleiber, Helen Sorenson, Phyllis Allen, Mary Christiansen, and Tom and Dee Duggan. The group was celebrating the July birthdays of Joyce Cox and Dee Duggan.
Leona Kleiber was a supper guest July 19 of Lynn and Peggy Kleiber and Andrea.
Reuben and Lucille Kerbs went to Peabody July 18 to watch the Cottonwood Valley 12-year-olds Cal Ripken baseball tournament. Their grandson, Rustyn Kerbs, played on the team which took first place. Julie and Ashton Kerbs also were in attendance.
Ruby Vinduska and Leona Kleiber were July 18 evening visitors of Terry and Cindy Vinduska of Marion.

Approximately 85 to 90 people attended a mini-fair Sunday afternoon sponsored by Tampa Triple T's 4-H Club, Tampa Community Association, Leos, and Prairie Pals. Free-will donations helped defray expenses. There were interesting exhibits in such varied categories as livestock, sewing, foods, art, crafts, and photography. Help with the event was provided by Agri-Producers, Inc., Tampa State Bank, Alco, and Vogt's Hometown Market.
Paul and Edna Backhus met other members of the Backhus family Sunday for dinner at Abilene. Others attending were Alvin and Iva Lou Backhus of Phoenix, Ariz., Victor Backhus of Herington, Martin Backhus of Kansas City, Bill and Ruth Taylor of Shawnee, Mildred Bernhardt of Lyons, Gerald and Alice Youkman of Wichita, and Keith and Lydia Evans of Haysville.

The menu was walking tacos, James' favorite cookie dessert, and pop.

Kathy Oborny took Jane Vajnar Friday to Newton for surgery at Newton Surgery Center. Twyla Brown of Wichita met them there and the three enjoyed dinner out afterward. Jane's pastor, the Rev. Curtis Wiens, also was there for the surgery.

Jim and Mary Clemmer attended a Rural Conservation and Development meeting July 11 at Abilene. After the meeting the group enjoyed a tour of historic sites and supper at Brookville Hotel. The after-dinner speaker was Terry Tietgen who is working on the restoration of Old Abilene Town.
Betty Mueller and Lois Sklenar went to Salina July 12.
Amanda Kleiber of Manhattan visited July 12 with her grandmother, Leona Kleiber.
Tom and Lori Moldenhauer and Nikki enjoyed a week's vacation July 8-15. They traveled to Chicago where they visited his sister and family, Jon and Lori Simon, Chrissy and Alix. Bill Moldenhauer joined them for a party in celebration of Tom's 50th birthday with a barbecue, swimming, and birthday cake. Tom, Lori, and Nikki rented an RV and went to the Wisconsin Dells, where they enjoyed a jet-boat ride and a tour of the upper dells. On the way back to Chicago they saw the House on the Rock at Spring Green, Wis., and toured gardens. They spent some more time with Tom's family before returning home.
Tom and Dee Duggan spent the weekend of July 8-10 with Darla Hall and Adam of Lee's Summit, Mo. The Duggans attended the Rozman-Rziha wedding Friday evening at Leawood. On Saturday morning all attended Adam's ball game and enjoyed lunch out.
Tampa Triple T's mini-fair will be at 4 p.m. Sunday in downtown Tampa. Members of the 4-H club will show some of their projects. The Tampa Community Association will serve a meal, and the Prairie Pals will serve ice cream.
Ross Schrag of Lindsborg spent from Sunday to Tuesday visiting his grandparents, Gus and Mildred Hamm.
Adeline Bernhardt visited Wilbert and Donna Backhus Sunday afternoon.
Cottonwood Crossing Chapter of the Santa Fe Trail Association had a potluck supper Saturday in the park with 26 people from several area towns attending. Kevin Hiebert of Goessel showed his collection of Indian and frontier artifacts which could have been used on the Santa Fe Trail.
Reuben and Lucille Kerbs went to Emporia Saturday to meet Virgil and Barbara Gooding of El Dorado, Al and Lila Gooding and Don and Cecile Penney of Topeka, and Elmer and Joyce Gooding of Tempe, Ariz. They enjoyed dinner out and an afternoon of visiting.
Many relatives and friends from here attended the wedding of David Rziha and Caterina Rozman at Church of the Nativity in Leawood Friday evening followed by a dinner and dance.
Russ Kerbs and Rustyn were breakfast guests Friday of Reuben and Lucille Kerbs. Rustyn spent the morning with his grandparents.
Jane Vajnar spent from Thursday to Sunday with Tim and Jane Dodds, Kristen and Matthew in Lenexa. On Friday the two Janes went to Nelson Art Gallery in Kansas City while the children had a play date with a friend. They attended the Rozman-Rziha wedding in the evening. On Saturday the Janes and the children went to Wonderscope, a children's museum in Shawnee. The Dodds family and Jane were Saturday supper guests of Steve and Joan Hillyer, Kyle, Kelsey, and Kate. In the evening the women and children attended the production of "Beauty and the Beast" at Theater in the Park in Shawnee. Jackie Richardson, Devon and Jordan and their friend Mackenzie met them at the theater. Before coming home Sunday afternoon Jane visited Harold and Fern Sliffe at Archie, Mo.
Leona Kleiber was a July 2 supper guest of Lynn and Peggy Kleiber, Amanda, Andrea, and Nicholas.
Georgia Spohn met Lenora Graham of Florence July 5 in Hillsboro for dinner out.
Jane Vajnar visited July 6 with Reuben and Lucille Kerbs.
Guests for a Fourth of July barbecue at the home of Frank and Anna Mae Stika were Ronnie and Lisa Hanschu, James and Anna and Tom and Lori Moldenhauer and Nikki. Tom, Lori, and Nikki met friends at Herington Lake in the afternoon. The others went to Ramona for the parade and fireworks. All gathered at the Moldenhauers later in the evening for food and fireworks.

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs and Russ and Julie Kerbs and Rustyn attended the Kerbs reunion July 3 in Salina.
Dale Mueller of Folsom, Calif., came here June 19 and spent three weeks visiting his parents, Art and Betty Mueller, and David Mueller and helping with harvest. Others coming during that time were Marla Mueller, Brenda and Andrea of Folsom, Brent Mueller and Kathy Pierce of Sacramento, Calif., Doug Mueller and Donovan of Ixonia, Wis., and Christina Shroeder and Austin of Tempe, Ariz. All attended the Mueller reunion July 2 at Hillsboro. Dale, Marla, and family also attended a gathering of the Van Meter family (Marla's relatives) July 3 in Minneapolis.
Leona Kleiber spent June 17-30 with Dean and Becky Routh, Melody, Allison, and Danielle of Augusta. On June 18, Becky and daughters and Leona attended the Butler County 4-H mini-fair at El Dorado. The Routh sisters earned purple ribbons for their project displays. The Rouths and Leona, along with Aaron and Holly Routh and Easton enjoyed dinner at a Wichita restaurant on Father's Day. The Rouths and Leona also attended various other activities during her visit.
