Tampa Lions Club pancake feed is Saturday

Tampa young people showed up very well in a religious quiz meet Sunday afternoon at Herington. About 100 young Catholics from Herington, Hope, Elmo, Tampa, Pilsen, Marion, and Lindsborg participated in the meet. Tampa's fifth and sixth grade team and one seventh grade team took first. The other seventh grade team placed third. The two eighth grade teams won second and third place, and the freshman and sophomore team took second. Juniors and seniors worked in various capacities to organize the tournament. Tampa religion students competing included Nathan Barney, Adam Kristek, Isaac Leihy, Paul Haslouer, Julie Rziha, Amanda Bina, Mark Prieb, Grant Schneider, Lucas Hamm, Sean Leihy, Kevin Mueller, Seth Jirak, Alphonse Klenda, Alisha Barney, Gloria Belton, Jackie Klenda, Clint Schneider, and Jeremy Kristek.

Gary and Carole Spohn are the proud grandparents of Lauren Lee Spohn born Palm Sunday morning to Ryan and Claudette Spohn of Iowa City, Iowa. Georgia Spohn is an equally proud great-grandmother. The baby weighed 6 pounds 15 ounces. Lauren was welcomed by a two-year-old brother, Adam. Maternal grandparents are Jim and Susan Ferguson of Marlow, Okla.

Sunday dinner guests of Frank and Anna Mae Stika were Tom and Lori Moldenhauer and Nikki and Lisa Hanschu, James and Anna.

John and Pat Schwartzman of Salina and Wayne and Marita Schwartzman of Wichita were weekend guests of Helen Schwartzman.

James and Anna Weber attended a birthday party Saturday evening for Dan Denham at the home of Jesse and Margaret Perry in Herington. They also were overnight guests.

Georgia Spohn visited Marguerite Goertz in Hillsboro Saturday morning.

Phyllis Mueller visited Ron and Jody Heath, Danielle and Tyler in Salina Saturday so she could take care of Tyler, who was ill.

Janie Rziha and Emilio Aida of Atchison were weekend guests of Jerry and Jeanne Rziha, Cecilia, Julie, and Dana. Both helped judge the Catholic quiz meet Sunday afternoon in Herington.

Anna Mae Stika and Lori Moldenhauer and Nikki spent Saturday in Wichita.

Carole Spohn visited Robert and Jane Vajnar Thursday afternoon.

Enjoying lunch with Tom and Dee Duggan at the café Friday were Don and Betty Frick of Topeka. Janel Duggan of Wichita, Carolyn Duggan of Hutchinson, and Gene Westerhaus of Flagstaff, Ariz. All went to the Duggan home after dinner for visiting.

Sunflower Senior Citizens gathered at the senior center April 8 for their monthly potluck and meeting with 10 members and three guests present. Guests were Gary and Carole Spohn and Joan Jones. The Spohns brought grapefruit for people to take home. Hosts Tom and Dee Duggan decorated the hall in an Easter theme. In the business meeting, members voted to have dinner at the café for their May meeting before breaking for the summer. Most of the group stayed to play card bingo after the meeting. Others present were Magdalen Dvorak, Eleanor Murphy, Leona Kleiber, Jane Vajnar, Tillie Hein, Adeline Bernhardt, Margaret Jirak, and Frank Patton.

Sharon Aderman of Topeka met Jane Vajnar at Abilene Thursday morning for a morning snack and gabfest. Sharon was on her way to visit her mother in Lindsborg.

Lenora Graham of Florence and Georgia Spohn enjoyed dinner in Durham April 9.

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs went to Salina April 8 to attend the spring concert at South High School. Their granddaughter, Molly Kerbs, played trombone with the band. Her parents, Tim and Marchelle Kerbs, also were present. After the concert, all went to Tim and Marchelle's home for birthday cake in celebration of Tim's birthday.

Evelyn Johnson of Abilene and Mrs. Fred Vinduska from Missouri visited Helen Schwartzman March 31.

The names of Elaine Backhus and Barbara Schlesener were accidentally omitted from the account of Tisha Webb's bridal shower in last week's news. Apologies.
