Tampa: Many attend open house at Pilsen church

Leona Kleiber and Adeline Bernhardt attended the open house Sunday afternoon at the newly-renovated St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Pilsen.
Also among those attending the open house at Pilsen were Frank and Anna Mae Stika, Lori Moldenhauer, and Lisa Hanschu. Of special interest to them was a picture of the ordination of Father Emil Kapaun, when Frank was one of the altar boys.
Funeral services for Irene Busch of Marion are Wednesday afternoon at Eastmoor United Methodist Church in Marion. Busch spent much of her life in the Tampa community and had many friends here. She was from the Hackler family, which founded the city of Tampa. Her son, Mark Roberts, still lives here. He and his extended family have the sympathy of the Tampa community.
Reuben and Lucille Kerbs and Russ and Julie Kerbs and Rustyn went to Wichita Sunday to watch the Wichita State University Shockers baseball team play Southwest Missouri State. Also present were Tim and Marchelle Kerbs of Salina and Glenn and Eloise Kerbs of Dodge city.
Lola and Jack Ware of White City spent Sunday with her sister and her husband, Art and Betty Mueller. The two couples enjoyed dinner at the café and attended the open house at the church in Pilsen in the afternoon.
Centre students competing at the state forensics tournament in Salina Saturday were Cecilia Rziha, Maria Jirak, Andrea Carlson, and Alisa Fernandez. Cecilia earned I ratings in oral interpretation of prose and poetry. Alisa and Cecilia received a II rating in improvised duet acting. Maria received a II rating with an informative speech.
Nyle and Kathi Sutton and Bob Grochowsky of Topeka brought Alex, Meaghan, and Kyle Sutton to Tampa Saturday morning to spend the day with their great-grandparents Jim and Mary Clemmer and Ron Clemmer. Jim and Mary met the children's parents in Marion in the afternoon and the children returned home with them.
Georgia Spohn visited Marguerite Goertz in Hillsboro Saturday. She also got to see Marguerite's daughter Rose Mary, who was visiting from California.
Reuben and Lucille Kerbs visited Doug and Connie Thompson, Allison and Taylor in Abilene Friday and helped with a garage sale. Lucille returned Saturday to assist.
Tom and Dee Duggan attended a wedding reception Saturday evening at the Olive Tree in Wichita honoring Andrea Duggan and Steve Herkeim. Andrea is the daughter of Tom's cousin Robert and Carol Duggan of Niles. Also attending were former Tampa residents, Don and Betty Frick of Topeka, Danny Duggan of McPherson, and Bob and Judy Oborny of Bartlesville, Okla.
Adeline Bernhardt and Leona Kleiber were among those attending the kindergarten through sixth grade spring program at Centre Friday evening. Leona's grandson, Nicholas Kleiber, was one of the students performing.
Jane Vajnar visited Helen Schwartzman Friday afternoon.
Donald and Carolyn Srajer of Omaha, Neb., arrived Thursday and spent the weekend visiting Tillie Hein and Jim and Kris Srajer, Grant and Cole. All attended Grant's soccer game in Herington Thursday evening and his spring school program Friday evening. Don and Carolyn left Sunday for the Grand Canyon and a vacation in the West.
Frank and Anna Mae Stika, Tom and Lori Moldenhauer, Ronnie and Lisa Hanschu, and Danny Denham attended the school program at Centre Friday evening. Nikki Stenzel and James and Anna Weber were in the program.
Reuben and Lucille Kerbs were among those attending the school program Friday evening to see their grandson, Rustyn Kerbs, perform.
Georgia Spohn went to Marion Thursday to meet her cousins, Lenora Graham of Florence, Earl and Ruth Pankratz of Newton, and Ronald and Irene Pankratz of Bend, Ore., for dinner.
An agriculture business class from Centre High School went to Kansas City Thursday. They visited the Board of Trade and a pasta factory. Tampa young people in the group included Maria Jirak, Cecilia Rziha, and Jenna Tajchman.
Bev Reid of rural Marion, Phyllis Mueller, and Edna Backhus went to Salina Thursday evening to attend a dance recital at the community theater. Phyllis' granddaughter, Danielle Heath, was one of the dancers performing.
St. John's Lutheran Women's Missionary League and their guests enjoyed a supper at Butch's Diner May 1 followed by a short business meeting. Members present included Edna Backhus, Cynthia Bentz, Adeline Bernhardt, Kathy Davis, Evelyn Hensley, Leona Kleiber, Joyce Medley, Alma Meyer, Betty Mueller, Edna Mueller, Maxine Mueller, and Phyllis Mueller. Guests were Frieda Bentz, Paul Bentz, Carl Bentz, Shirley Hein, Jin-Young Kim, and Charles Quinn.
Tom and Dee Duggan were among the Lions Club members attending the installation banquet for Leo Club members at the senior center April 27.
Maria Jirak, Cecilia Rziha, Jenna Tajchman, and Natalie Carlson won the state Future Farmers of America farm management competition at Manhattan April 29. The team will represent the state in national competition at the FFA national convention in October. The same team won the state and competed at nationals last year in agriculture sales.
Eight members of Prairie Pals and three guests met April 29 for their last meeting before the summer break. After the business meeting, Laveta Meyer and Jeanne Rziha were hostesses for a tea party in which everyone assumed identities other than their own. A couple of women posed as their own relatives from the past, one came as Minnie Pearl, and the others simply invented fictitious characters. Others present were Lori Meyer, Cecilia Rziha, Julie Rziha, Virginia Benz, Michele Berens, Janet Bielefeld, Mary Clemmer, Monica Leihy, and Jane Vajnar.
Tom and Dee Duggan attended the Kansas Postmasters Convention held April 29 at the Holiday Inn Select in Wichita.
Art and Betty Mueller met Lola and Jack Ware of White City in Herington April 29 for dinner in celebration of the Muellers' wedding anniversary and Lola's birthday.
Deb and Kaylee Hall of Herington accompanied Tom and Dee Duggan to Lee's Summit, Mo., April 26 to visit Darla Hall and Adam. Adam was a contestant in a geography bee held at his school, Hawthorne Elementary in Lee's Summit. Contestants included five students each from the fourth, fifth, and sixth grade classes. Adam is in fourth grade.
Leona Kleiber's name was accidentally omitted from an item in last week's news about family members attending the 4-H dog show. Apologies.
