Tampa: Mini health fair

A mini health fair July 9 at the senior center drew 31 participants. Workers from the county health office, St. Luke Hospital, the agency on aging and the extension office were present to check blood pressure, blood sugar and hemoglobin. They also served a meal, and Nancy Pihl from the extension office talked about nutrition and health.

Andrea Kleiber, Kristin Mueller and Raschelle Jirak are spending this week at Totus Tuus camp at Wichita.

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs visited Connie Thompson and Taylor in Abilene Monday morning. Taylor accompanied her grandparents back to Tampa to spend a few days with them.

The Tampa men's slow pitch softball team won both games against Florence Sunday evening.

Sunday dinner guests of Frank and Anna Mae Stika were Tom and Lori Moldenhauer and Nikki and Ronnie and Lisa Hanschu, James and Anna.

Martha Melcher and Eleanor Murphy were Sunday evening visitors of Helen Schwartzman.

Dennis Klenda and Tyler visited Lois Sklenar on Sunday evening.

Leona Kleiber was a Sunday supper guest of Lynn and Peggy Kleiber, Amanda, Andrea and Nicholas.

Jane Vajnar and James Weber accompanied Jim and Myrna Hamm, Sara, Lucas and Morganne to Abilene to tour the Kansas Athletic Hall of Fame on Sunday. James, Lucas, and Jane had been reading about Kansas' athletes for a 4-H reading project.

Adeline Bernhardt accompanied Agnes Bernhardt to the 40th anniversary open house Saturday at Donahue Corp. Phyllis Mueller and Edna Backhus also attended the luncheon and open house Sunday at Donahue.

Tom Duggan is spending some time with Darla Hall and Adam at Lee's Summit, Mo.

Visitors of Art and Betty Mueller during the past week were Carole Spohn and Mary Ann Frantz.

Leona Kleiber accompanied Adeline Bernhardt to Marion on Friday to attend the musical "Krazy Kamp," presented by the children's theater group at the city auditorium.

Anna Mae Stika and Lori Moldenhauer and Nikki had dinner out in Salina on Saturday.

Jane Vajnar attended the wedding of Michael Kempke and Christy Cavanaugh on Saturday afternoon at St. Peter the Apostle Church in Wichita. It was followed by a dinner and dance in the parish hall. Before the wedding Jane met her friend Twyla Brown for lunch.

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs went to Salina to watch a slow pitch softball game Thursday between the Bogeys and the Green Lantern Blaze team. Their granddaughter, Molly Kerbs, plays for the Bogeys, which her father, Tim Kerbs, coaches. Marchelle Kerbs also was present.

Leona Kleiber accompanied Adeline Bernhardt to Marion on Thursday to visit Milda Krauter at St. Luke Hospital. Milda is recuperating from a fall in which she broke her pelvic bone. They also had the opportunity to talk with Glen Krauter of Peabody, who was visiting his wife.

People from this area attending services Thursday for O'Ruth Petterson at the University Congregational Church in Wichita were Paul and Edna Backhus, Bev Reid, Ophelia Jacobson, Phyllis Mueller, Mike and Jennifer Jay, Brad, Kathy and Jason Backhus, and Sara Houdyshell. Paul, Edna, Brad, Kathy, Jason, Sara, Mike and Jennifer also attended visitation Wednesday at the Downey-Lahey Mortuary.

Evelyn Strecker visited her sister, Helen Schwartzman, on July 10.

Lola Ware of White City and Betty Mueller enjoyed lunch out in Salina on July 9.

Tom and Lori Moldenhauer left July 5 for a week's vacation in Tennessee. They saw Graceland and Beale Street in Memphis. In Nashville they rode horses and toured downtown, which included Ryan Auditorium, where the Grand Ole Opry performs. They attended a T. Graham Brown concert and other shows.

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs went to Abilene for Ikes I and Ikes II fast-pitch softball game July 8. Their granddaughter, Allison Phillips, played on the winning team. Doug and Connie Thompson and Taylor also were present. All later watched Taylor play tee ball.

Rita Hensley of Shawnee came to Tampa on July 1 and took her mother, Evelyn Hensley, back to spend a week with Rita and her husband, Charles Quinn. On the way to Shawnee they visited Warren Vajnar at Topeka. Rita and Charles brought Evelyn home on July 8.

Christina and Travis Schroeder were July 3 and 4 guests of her grandparents, Art and Betty Mueller. They were en route from Wisconsin to Tempe, Ariz., where the newlyweds will be making their home.
