The Tampa Community Association will sponsor a community game night Sunday evening, at the senior center. Bring snacks to share.
The Centre High School Leos will be hosts for Blast From the Past, a senior prom for older citizens, from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday. Candidates for king and queen of the prom are Paul and Edna Backhus, Jim and Mary Clemmer, and Tom and Dee Duggan.
Adeline Bernhardt was a guest of Barney and Linda Bernhardt and Megan in Wichita from Monday to Wednesday.
Prairie Pals met Tuesday evening in the Lutheran church basement with Virginia Bentz and Laveta Meyer as hostesses. Nancy Methven showed her collection of quilts, some of them dating from before 1910. Vickie Krause accompanied her to help with the program. Others present were Iona Dietrich, Melissa Stuchlik, Delores Frantz, Jeanne Rziha, Mary Clemmer, Shirley Zaideman, Lori Meyer, Shirley Krause, Shirley Lane, and Jane Vajnar.,
The Tampa community Association will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday.
Francis and Mary Jirak are the proud grandparents of Felicity Rose Gear born Oct. 22 to Travis and Maria Gear of Winfield. She weighed 9 pounds, 3 ounces and measured 20 inches, Paternal grandparents are David and Michele Gear of Wichita. Great-grandparents are Delores and Thomas Schriedel of Saint Louis, Mo., James and Julietta Seiler of Colwich, and Margaret Jirak.
Sunflower Senior Citizens took a tour bus to Ellinwood Monday. They saw the underground area, where a harness shop, saloon, and other pioneer businesses used to be. The tour was arranged by Tillie Hein with Tom Duggan acting as driver. Others in the group were Magdalen Dvorak, Margaret Jirak, Lenora Smith, Leona Kleiber, Ruby Vinduska, Martha Melcher, Betty Mueller, Lucille Bernhardt, Mary and Jim Clemmer, and Dee Duggan.
Georgia Spohn met Lenora Graham of Florence in Hillsboro Monday. They attended Learning in Retirement at Tabor College and enjoyed dinner.
Jim Srajer coached a Centre soccer team to an undefeated season. Tampa youngsters on the team were his son, Grant Srajer, and Chad Mueller. Congratulations to all.
Jerry Vajnar of Newton, a Tampa native, and his wife Mildred celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary Oct. 14. A column by Jerry published in The Newton Kansas told about his early life here and his and Mildred's courtship. He told of taking her out for a movie and stopping for a burger and soft drink afterward, all for a dollar. Before the courting swains of today turn green with envy, they need to remember that Jerry did not mention that a dollar was at least a day's wage for most laborers in the '30s.
Terry and Cindy Vinduska of Marion, Ruby Vinduska of Pilsen, Adeline Bernhardt, and Leona Kleiber enjoyed Sunday dinner at the café.
Jane Vajnar visited Georgia Spohn Sunday afternoon.
Tillie Hein was a Sunday afternoon guest of Jim and Kris Srajer, Grant and Cole for cake and ice cream in celebration of Grant's 11th birthday.
Tom Duggan helped with Knights of Columbus breakfast Sunday morning. Afterward, he and his wife Dee went to Hutchinson where they met Bill and Lynne McKinney of Louisville, Ky., and Carolyn Duggan of Hutchinson of supper.
Ryan Spohn, Adam and Lauren spent the weekend with Gary and Carole Spohn. Georgia Spohn joined them on Sunday for church and dinner.
A number of Tampa people attended the sub-state volleyball tournament in Hillsboro Saturday to watch the Hillsboro team take the championship. Team members with ties to our community are Amanda Bina, JuliAnne Chisholm, Tina Frick, and Dakota Kaufman.
Barney and Linda Bernhardt and Megan of Wichita and Adeline Bernhardt attended a party Saturday in celebration of Brian Bernhardt's sixth birthday. Hostesses were Carrie Bernhardt of El Dorado and her sister, Angie of Herington. The party was at Angie's home. Other relatives and friends attended. The decorations and refreshments followed a Fear Factor theme.
Frank and Anna Mae Stika attended the polka club's hog roast and Halloween party at Marion County Lake.
Member of the Red Hat Society attended a German dinner Saturday at the country club in Herington. The event was sponsored by the PEO to raise funds for scholarships for area graduates. Those attending included Liz Monington, Alice Bell, Helen Sorenson, Rose Mary Deines, Betty Schlesener, Ramona Goracke, Barbara Askew, Sue and Gail McIntyre, and Dee and Tom Duggan.
Tillie Hein was among those attending the Knights of Columbus breakfast at the senior center Sunday.
Several Tampa people attended a hamburger fry at Emanuel Baptist Church in Marion Sunday. The Durham and Strassburg churches were invited.
Reuben and Lucille Kerbs went to Abilene Friday and Saturday and joined Connie Thompson in doing a garage sale.
A number of Tampa people attended visitation Friday evening and/or funeral services Saturday in Hillsboro for Larry Kleiber, who grew up at Tampa. His family has the sympathy of the community.
Tom Duggan met with the Centre High School Leos Friday noon at Centre. Dee Duggan picked up her granddaughter, Kaylee Hall, Friday afternoon and met with the junior high Leos at 3 p.m. Kaylee was an overnight guest of her grandparents.
Members of the Red Hat Society met at Burdick Oct. 18, and followed the Scarecrows on Parade map to view the scarecrows in Burdick, Lost Springs. Ramona, and Tampa, ending their tour with dinner. Those participating were Tom and Dee Duggan, Leona Kleiber, Adeline Bernhardt, Everett and Rhea Kolling, Joe and Joyce Cox, Betty Schlesener, Ramona Goracke, Alice Bell, Karolyn Schlesener, Rose Mary Deines, Helen Sorenson, Phyllis Allen, Barbara Askew, Sue McIntyre, and Liz Monington.
