Tampa: Prairie Pals meet

For their final meeting before the summer hiatus, Prairie Pals enjoyed a wiener roast Tuesday evening at the home of Shirley Krause near Durham. Mary Clemmer was an assisting hostess. Others members present were Iona Dietrich, Melissa Stuchlik, Julie Noeth, Michele Berens, Virginia Bentz, and Jane Vajnar. Shirley's sister-in-law, Shirley Lane of Grand Junction, Colo., was a guest. After supper the group hiked along a nature trail through the pasture.
Paul and Edna Backhus spent Tuesday and Wednesday in Kansas City to attend the funeral of Paul's brother Martin. They have the sympathy of the Tampa community.
Bonnie Haslouer of Abilene, Chuck Haslouer of Hope, and Jeanne Rziha went to Clay Center Tuesday to attend the funeral of Kelly Speltz, a young cousin who died in a drowning accident. The Tampa community extends sympathy.
Reuben and Lucille Kerbs went to Salina for an appointment Tuesday and met Tim and April Kerbs for lunch.
Leona Kleiber and Adeline Bernhardt met Peggy Kleiber in Salina Tuesday for dinner.
Tom and Dee Duggan attended a birthday party for their granddaughter, Kaylee Hall, Tuesday at the home of Deb Hall and Kaylee in Herington. Several of Kaylee's young friends also were present.
Jane Vajnar visited Georgia Spohn Monday afternoon.
Daniel and Melissa Stuchlik, Tanner and Allie were hosts Sunday evening for a barbecue at their home. Guests included Jill Tarin of Manhattan, Terry and Cindy Vinduska of Marion, Ruby Vinduska, and Leona Kleiber. Armando Tarin was spending several days with his family at Johnson. Armando and Jill soon will move to Florida, where Armando will start his new job near Orlando.
Frank and Anna Mae Stika, Lori Moldenhauer and Nikki, and Ronnie and Lisa Hanschu and Anna attended commencement exercises Sunday at Marion followed by a reception at the country club in honor of Josh Kelsey and two of his classmates.
Rachel Davis, Krista Heiser, and Jackie Klenda were among the graduates Sunday afternoon at the Centre High School commencement exercises. All three were awarded scholarship trophies. Jackie and Krista were recognized for maintaining a 4.0 grade point average throughout their four years of high school, and Jackie was a member of the National Honor Society. Tampa is proud of them.
Betty Mueller attended Centre's commencement Sunday afternoon. Later, she went to the receptions for Rachel Davis and for Carl Bentz, who graduated from Hope High School.
After-church visitors of Reuben and Lucille Kerbs Sunday were Jesse and Ashton Smith of Salina and Russ and Julie Kerbs and Rustyn.
Tom and Dee Duggan attended commencement exercises at Hope Sunday afternoon, followed by a reception for Lizzie Dillon at the Catholic parish hall.
Adeline Bernhardt and Leona Kleiber attended receptions for Rachel Davis and Carl Bentz Sunday afternoon.
Andrea Mueller and Melissa Fukushimo were weekend guests of Andrea's grandparents, Art and Betty Mueller. The young women graduated recently from Syracuse University in New York and were on their way home to California.
Lynn and Peggy Kleiber and Nicholas of Salina, Andrea Kleiber of Manhattan, Dale Klenda, Adeline Bernhardt, and Leona Kleiber enjoyed dinner Sunday at the cafe. All attended the Centre commencement and receptions for graduates.
Lori Moldenhauer and Anna Mae Stika went to Hutchinson and Buhler Saturday for dinner out and shopping.
Gary and Carole Spohn and Georgia Spohn met Ryan Spohn of Manhattan in Junction City Saturday evening for supper.
Deb Hall and Kaylee of Herington and Tom and Dee Duggan met an old friend, Esther Williams, and a group of their relatives Saturday evening for supper at a Salina restaurant.
Lucille Kerbs enjoyed dinner out in Abilene Saturday with Connie Thompson and Taylor.
Jerry and Jeanne Rziha, Cecilia and Julie attended a hooding ceremony at Lawrence Saturday evening. Caterina Rziha was one of the graduates receiving a doctor of pharmacy degree.
Tom and Dee Duggan attended a 25th wedding anniversary celebration Saturday afternoon for Perry and Barb Steiner at Valley Methodist Church, Marion.
Lynn and Peggy Kleiber, Andrea and Nicholas were weekend guests of Leona Kleiber. On Saturday evening Dale Klenda joined them for supper out at Lost Springs.
Kathy Hubbard of Wellington and Adeline Bernhardt enjoyed dinner at the cafe Thursday.
Frank and Anna Mae Stika, Tom and Lori Moldenhauer, and Lisa Hanschu were among those attending the Centre 5-12 instrumental and vocal music program Thursday evening. James and Anna Weber and Nikki Stenzel were among the students performing.
Reuben and Lucille Kerbs attended the spring concert at Centre Thursday evening. Their grandson, Rustyn Kerbs, performed with both the band and the chorus.
Andrea Kleiber spent Thursday with Leona Kleiber, and they enjoyed dinner at the cafe.
Jerry and Jeanne Rziha and Julie attended commencement exercises May 13 at Benedictine College in Atchison. Emilio Aita received a BA degree in religious studies and physical education.

Members of the Holy Redeemer Altar Society and their guests enjoyed a mother-daughter salad supper Monday evening at the senior center with Gwenn Belton, Mary Ann Frantz, and Dee Duggan as hostesses. Dr. Richard Uhlig of Herington spoke about healthful living and fielded questions; his wife Pat was a special guest. Others present included Helen Costello, Mary Christiansen, Melissa Jirgens, Kris Srajer, Tillie Hein, Margaret Jirak, Mary Jirak, Deb Hall, Carla Hajek, Amy Hajek, Gloria Belton, Melissa Florey, Rita Brunner, Kristine Jirak, Francie Mueller, Vickie Jirak, Teresa Tajchman, Monica Svoboda, Diane Steiner, Kathy Oborny, and Rose Mary Jirak. The hostesses furnished geraniums for door prizes, which were won by Tillie Hein, Teresa Tajchman, Diane Steiner, and Kathy Oborny. Pat Uhlig also was given a geranium.
Irma Benda and Anna Mae Stika enjoyed a coffee break Wednesday morning at the cafe.
Andrea Kleiber of Manhattan was a Tuesday evening supper guest of her grandmother, Leona Kleiber.
Marguerite Goertz of Hillsboro and Georgia Spohn enjoyed dinner out Wednesday in Hillsboro.
Jim and Mary Clemmer received an invitation to the high school graduation of Megan Carlson, one of the Girl Scouts from Tampa, Fla., who visited the Kansas Tampa in 1996. Megan is the salutatorian of her class.
Fourteen people attended the public hearing and meeting Monday evening in regard to the proposed sewer improvements at the city office. The consensus of the public was to go ahead with the grant and loan applications to fund the project. However, the council decided to postpone action until they had consulted the city attorney.
Barney and Linda Bernhardt and Megan of Wichita spent Mother's Day with Adeline Bernhardt. They attended church together and enjoyed dinner out.
Valerie Hampton of Hillsboro spent Mother's Day with her mother, Lois Sklenar.
Ruby Vinduska, Leona Kleiber, Jill Tarin, and Terry and Cindy Vinduska enjoyed Mother's Day dinner at Kingfisher Steakhouse & Lounge near Marion. After dinner, they went to Terry and Cindy's home for visiting and dessert.
Ted and Maxine Zielinski of Omaha, Neb., came Thursday to spend the weekend with their daughter and family, Jim and Kris Srajer, Grant and Cole. Tillie Hein accompanied them Thursday evening to Herington for Grant's last soccer game of the season. The Zielinskis, Srajers, and Tillie attended Mass at Elmo Sunday followed by a Mother's Day brunch at the Srajer home.
Frank and Anna Mae Stika, Tom and Lori Moldenhauer and Nikki, and Ronnie and Lisa Hanschu, James and Anna attended a Mother's Day picnic at Oakdale Park in Salina. Others present were Lyle and Julie Sader and Brian and Corey Sader, Kevin and Brylee of Salina, Chris and Tisha Bielefeld, Megan and Seth of Peabody, Helen Sader of Herington, and Ruth Riggin of Burdick.
Becky Routh, Melody, Allison, and Danielle of Augusta visited Leona Kleiber late Saturday afternoon after attending the Hen House Tea in Ramona where the Routh girls provided instrumental and vocal music.
All of Mary Clemmer's sons called her Sunday with Mother's Day greetings. Don had finished working a 12-hour shift at Philips Lighting, then repaired a plumbing problem at one of his rental properties. He expected to work another 12-hour day Monday.
A number of Tampa people attended a party at McPherson Sunday afternoon in celebration of Glen Klinkerman's 90th birthday.
Adeline Bernhardt, Martha Melcher, and Jane Vajnar accompanied Dee Duggan Saturday afternoon to the Hen House Tea in Ramona. Dee's daughter, Deb Hall of Herington met them there. Adeline's grandnieces, Allison, Melody, and Danielle Routh, provided the entertainment. Martha was given a corsage as the oldest mother present. Deb won a prize for the funniest hat; she had arranged a farmstead of little animals and a toy tractor on cardboard from an egg crate and attached to her hat. Adeline won one of the door prizes.
Greg Sklenar flew Sunday to Arizona. Larry Hampton met him at Phoenix, and the brothers are spending several days viewing the Grand Canyon and other sights.
Ruby Vinduska and Leona Kleiber accompanied Terry and Cindy Vinduska Saturday morning to Kansas State University in Manhattan to attend commencement exercises at Bramlage Coliseum. Armando Tarin graduated with a bachelor of science degree in business administration with a double major in marketing and management. Others there to see Armando get his degree were Jill Tarin, Amanda Kleiber, Andrea Kleiber, and Tim Baxa, all of Manhattan, Jesus and Carrie Tarin, Geraldo and Rolando of Johnson, Uriel Tarin and Ron and Tami Vinduska of Topeka, Lynn Kleiber of Salina, Daniel and Melissa Stuchlik, Tanner and Allie of Pilsen, and other relatives and friends. Following commencement all enjoyed a lunch reception in Armando's honor.
Lucille Kerbs went to Abilene Saturday, and Connie Thompson, Allison and Taylor took her out for dinner as an early celebration of Mother's Day. Lucille also received many calls, cards, and gifts from her children and grandchildren.
Phyllis Mueller and Rod Mueller were Sunday dinner guests of Ron and Jody Heath, Danielle and Tyler of Salina. Jim and Sandy Heath of Salina also were dinner guests. In addition to Mother's Day, the family was celebrating Danielle's 11th birthday. Afternoon visitors were Tom and Bev Reid of Marion, Mike and Jennifer Jay of Hillsboro, and Edna Backhus. Dolores Scott of Emporia spent Saturday with her mother, Tillie Hein.
Tom Duggan spent Saturday with his granddaughter, Kaylee Hall of Herington. After her dance lesson they went to Junction City and Manhattan. In the afternoon Deb Hall and Dee Duggan joined them at the Duggan home for a Mother's Day party. Dee's other daughter, Darla Hall of Lee's Summit, Mo., called with Mother's Day greetings.
Georgia Spohn visited Marguerite Goertz of Hillsboro Friday and they enjoyed dinner out.
Members of the Sader family gathered in Ramona Saturday to demolish the old house. Those present included Randy and Kodi Kelsey of Marion, Lyle and Julie Sader and Brian Sader, Kevin and Brylee of Salina, Tom and Lori Moldenhauer, Ronnie and Lisa Hanschu and James, and Frank and Anna Mae Stika. All enjoyed lunch at the cafe in Ramona where Ruth Riggin of Burdick joined them.

Adeline Bernhardt was a May 5 and 6 guest of Barney and Linda Bernhardt and Megan in Wichita. On Friday the Bernhardts entertained with a surprise birthday supper for Carrie Bernhardt of El Dorado. Additional guests were John and Debra Haynes, Hailey and Heather, Robyn Cashman, Stacy McPherson, Crissy Tarres, Toyia Harbor, Jennifer Woodward, Ronda Davis, and Wendy Lowman of Wichita. From Saturday to Tuesday Adeline was the guest of Carl and Kathy Hubbard and Clint at Wellington. The following attended an open house retirement party May 7 for Kathy Hubbard at Eisenhower School: Carl and Kathy Hubbard and Clint, Andrea King, Ken and Laverne Miller and Donna Hubbard of Wellington, Mitch and Jennifer Rusk, Kelsey and Chandler of Edmund, Okla., Chris and Dee Anna Stout and Gabrielle, Barney and Linda Bernhardt and Megan of Wichita, and many other co-workers and friends. After the reception all of the above were luncheon guests at the Hubbard home.
