Tampa: Women attend Valentine supper at Elmo

Eleanor Murphy, Martha Melcher, and Tillie Hein attended a Valentine supper Sunday evening sponsored by the Catholic Youth Organization at Elmo, then went on to Herington for the monthly card party.

Frank and Anna Mae Stika enjoyed dinner in Newton Sunday in celebration of Valentine's Day.

Gus and Mildred Hamm, Willis and Eleanor Herbel, and Robert and Jane Vajnar attended the King's Daughters Valentine banquet Sunday evening at the Durham Baptist church. The meal was served by the Baptist Youth Fellowship and their sponsors, Dave and Mary Lancaster of Hillsboro and Kem and Autumn Chisholm. The fellowship hall was decorated as an Alpine lodge and the food and program followed that theme. Entertainment included a mountain trivia quiz, light-hearted introductions of "celebrities" and music by The Lighthouse Quartet, a group from the Hillsboro area. Members are Reno Penner, Ken Koslowsky, Lowell Jost, Joel Suderman, and Carla Koslowsky, accompanist.

Tillie Hein was a Sunday dinner guest of Jim and Kris Srajer, Grant and Cole.

Jim and Diane Herron and Andrew of Wichita and John and Jeanne Rziha, Michael, Christopher, Joseph, and Timothy of Atchison were weekend guests of Jerry and Jeanne Rziha, Cecilia, Julie and Dana.

Scott Ingalls of Pratt was a Saturday overnight guest of his grandmother, Helen Costello. They attended Mass in Elmo Saturday evening, and on Sunday joined Bonnie Crandall for dinner at the café.

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs went to Abilene Saturday to visit Connie Thompson and Taylor. All went to dinner at Mr. K's Farmhouse, where other family members were waiting to surprise Lucille on her 70th birthday. Others present included Doug Thompson and Allison and Bonnie Seaman of Abilene, Tim and Marchelle Kerbs, April and Molly, Ashton Kerbs and Jesse Smith of Salina, Virgil and Barbara Gooding of El Dorado, Al Gooding and Don and Cecile Penney of Topeka, Don's twin sisters from Arkansas, and Elmer and Joyce Gooding of Tempe, Ariz. Following the meal, birthday cake and ice cream were served. Lucille opened her gifts and cards and received a "spanking" with Mr. K's paddle, which she signed. April, Allison, and Taylor wrote reminiscences of their grandmother and read them to the group. Lucille read a poem about her life written by her sister, Cecile. Russ and Julie Kerbs joined them later for an afternoon of visiting at the Thompson home. Glenn and Eloise Kerbs of Dodge City were unable to attend, because they were in Hawaii. Other invited guests who were absent included Clayton Kerbs of Dodge City, Lila Gooding of Topeka, Ronnie Seaman of Abilene and Rustyn Kerbs.

Frank and Anna Mae Stika spent Friday evening with their grandchildren, James and Anna Weber, while Ronnie and Lisa Hanschu celebrated Valentine's Day with supper in Council Grove.

Russ Kerbs took Reuben and Lucille Kerbs to breakfast Friday morning in celebration of Lucille's birthday and Valentine's Day.

Tom and Lori Moldenhauer enjoyed a Valentine supper in Wichita Friday evening.

Georgia Spohn met Lenora Graham of Florence in Hillsboro Thursday morning and they attended the Learning in Retirement program at Tabor College. Carl and Marcella Wiebe brought a program about their experiences living and working in Egypt. Jane Vajnar also attended the lecture and enjoyed dinner in the college cafeteria.

Visitors of Helen Schwartzman the evening of Feb. 12 were John and Pat Schwartzman of Salina, Eleanor Murphy, and Martha Melcher.

A group of women enjoying dinner in Hillsboro Feb. 12 included Adeline Bernhardt, Leona Kleiber, Tillie Hein, Helen Costello, Bonnie Crandall, Eleanor Herbel, Agnes Steinert, and Beryl Steiner. Patty Ingalls and Laurie Sutherland and Elizabeth of Mulvane met the group for dinner and spent the afternoon visiting Helen. Two-month-old Elizabeth made a big hit with everyone.

Georgia Spohn met Melvin Mohn of Lyons in Lindsborg Feb. 12 for dinner.

Frank and Anna Mae Stika, Lori Moldenhauer and Ronnie, and Lisa Hanschu attended funeral services for Irvin Brunner Feb. 11 in Marion.

Sunflower Senior Citizens met at the senior center Feb. 11 for a potluck meal, program, and business meeting. Dr. D.R. Scharenberg spoke to the group about pain management. Members played card bingo. Hostesses Adeline Bernhardt and Leona Kleiber decorated the hall in a Valentine theme. One guest, Joan Jones, attended. Other members present were Evelyn Hensley, Margaret Jirak, Tillie Hein, Eleanor Murphy, Martha Melcher, Helen Costello, Cathy Rehmert, Jane Vajnar, Tom and Dee Duggan, and Frank Patton.

American Legion Auxiliary met Feb. 12 to sew carpet rags for disabled veterans to use in making rugs. A light supper was served by the hostesses, Margaret Vinduska and Jane Vajnar. Bonnie Crandall won the door prize. The group discussed possible candidates for Girls' State. Others present were Dee Duggan, Bonnie Funk, Maxine Mueller, JoAnn Nowak, Beryl Steiner, and Ruby Vinduska.
