Taylor, Versch named students of the month at MHS
Marion High School students Becky Taylor and Joel Versch were named students of the month by the MHS faculty.
Taylor, a senior, is the daughter of Mike and Alana Taylor of Marion. Mike works as a computer drafter for Straightline Manufacturing, Newton. Alana is a nurse at Via Christi, Wichita.
Becky's siblings include Michelle, Robert, Nicole, and Margie — all MHS graduates — Jacob, a sophomore at MHS, and Rose, an eight grader at Marion Middle School.
She attends Hillsboro Mennonite Church and is involved in the youth group. She is involved in cross country, track, forensics, creative writing, musicals, and melodrama. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council, choir, jazz band ensemble, Quiz Bowl, and math contest.
Community involvement includes providing music at nursing homes, operating the sound system at church worship services, and playing the keyboard on the praise team. She also assists with summer theater productions.
Hobbies include music, writing, hiking, shopping, and spending time with friends and family.
Future plans include attending Kansas State University, majoring in elementary education.
Versch, a junior, is the son of Jim and Judy Versch of Marion. Both work at MHS, Jim as art instructor and Judy as attendance clerk.
Joel's siblings include Jesse, an MHS graduate currently stationed with the Navy at Kings Bay, Ga.; Sarah, a student at the University of Nebraska-Kearny; Emalee, an eighth grader at MMS; and Jordan, a third grader at MES.
He is a member of Valley United Methodist Church and of the area Methodist youth group. At MHS he is on the football, basketball, and track teams. He is a member of the leadership team and National Honor Society. He was class president his freshman and sophomore years.
Community involvement includes helping with biddy basketball and painting faces at the MES PAC carnival. He works as a lifeguard at Marion Municipal Pool and enjoys sports and art
He plans to attend college.
