Teacher talking classes at NASA
Marion Elementary School teacher Linda Allison is attending a National Aeronautics and Space Administration Educational Workshop from July 8 through 19 at the Dryden Flight Research Center at Edwards Air Force Base, Edwards, Calif.
Allison, who teaches fourth grade, was one of 25 teachers from 10 states selected to attend the workshop.
Teachers attending were selected through national competition.
Allison, who lives at Florence, was able to observe and study state-of-the-art research and enhance her skills in math, science, and technology.
She also was able to conduct hands-on experiments and investigation.
The Dryden workshop participants also observe NASA's aeronautical and earth science research through direct interaction with pilots, scientists, engineers, and educational specialists.
They toured aircraft and had project briefings.
The workshop focuses on how aerospace flight research may be used as a context for developing a thematic approach to teaching, math, science, technology, and geography.
Allison and others also visited the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratories at Passadena, Calif.
She said the experience of being selected was "incredible and exciting."
