Ted Lee
Ted J. Lee, 70, Topeka, a former resident of Herington, died March 4, 2002, at his home, after a long battle with cancer.
He was born Oct. 27, 1931, in Hutchinson, the son of Fred and Ruth (Giddings) Lee.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, at the United Methodist Church, Herington, with the Rev. Edward Thompson and the Rev. Linda Toms officiating. Burial will follow at the Sunset Hill Cemetery with full military honors by a special funeral detail from Fort Riley.
Friends may call at the Donahue Funeral Home, Herington, from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, and from noon until time of service on Thursday.
Lee was a locomotive engineer for the Union Pacific Railroad until he retired in 1997 after 43 years of service. He was a member of the Herington United Methodist Church. He graduated from Herington High School with the class of 1949. He moved from Herington to Topeka in September 2000.
Lee was an AL3 as a radio operator for flight operations in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, with helicopter Squadron ONE (HU-1). He received three Bronze Stars and was awarded the Silver Star Medal.
He married Carolyn S. Tremblay Jan. 28, 1980, in Abilene. She survives as do two daughters, Denise Scofield of Overland Park and Terri Patterson of Topeka; three sons, David Lee of Ellsworth, Todd Lee of Phoenix, Ariz., and Randy Weaver of Concordia; and a sister, Beverly Bayes of Herington. He also is survived by 11 grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Lee, on March 6, 2001, and by his parents.
Memorials have been requested to the Midland Hospice of Topeka.
