Thieves steal television equipment from stadium
Information is being sought by Marion Police Department regarding the theft of camera equipment at Marion Stadium.
Sometime between Sept. 10 and Sept. 15, someone broke into the press box at the stadium and stole equipment that belonged to WTVN, Warrior Television Network, a community-based television company that films and televises community events.
Crew members of the network used the equipment to film Marion High School sports, Marion County Fair parade, Marion Old Settlers' Day parade, and other community events.
Police chief Michel Soyez said the equipment has a unique appearance.
"The camera is identifiable," Soyez said. "It's not an ordinary video camera."
The professional camera was a Sony digital camcorder, model DSR-200 with a shoulder mount.
Also taken were four digital video tapes, Elite five-inch television monitor, Sure wireless microphone, six Motorola radios with headsets, a blue duffel bag, two green canvas tote bags, a red plastic box with different sizes of batteries, and a pair of binoculars.
Total value of the equipment was estimated at $8,440.
Also stolen was a large quantity of candy bars from the concession stand located in the stadium.
The press box at the rodeo arena located southeast of the stadium, also was broken into. It has not been determined if anything was stolen, Soyez said.
Anyone with information or observed suspicious activity in the area is asked to contact the police department at 382-2651.
"Even though what you saw might not seem like much, those small pieces of information can be key factors in helping to solve an investigation," Soyez said.
"This is a crime against our community," said Soyez. "This electronic equipment was used by public channel 22 to record town events and school sports; therefore, it makes everyone in the community a victim."
