This and That Salon opens

A new salon and boutique which will bring new items to the Marion area opened for business Tuesday morning in Marion Business Park.

This & That Salon and Boutique, owned and operated by Vicki Kay Crawford, is located on the west side of Highway 56 Auto/Truck Wash.

The business is a full service salon specializing in color, permanents, weaves, and other hair dressing. Crawford also plans on offering body sugaring.

A stylist for 11 years and Marion native, Crawford most recently worked at Bello Capelli Salon in McPherson. Previously, Crawford had her own shop, Expressions, located in downtown Marion for four years. She closed it in 1996 for personal reasons.

"Hair is my passion. I love working with hair and I love being around people," Crawford explained.

Crawford said she decided to open another shop in Marion for several reasons. Most importantly, as the mother of three young children she felt it would allow her to set her own hours and spend more time with her children.

Secondly, Crawford felt the Marion area was lacking a boutique-type shop.

"There's really no place between Emporia and McPherson where you can get the items I'll be offering," she said.

Besides the hair styling aspect, another facet of the business is the boutique offering custom jewelry, customized makeup, perfumes usually only available in high end department stores, candles, and floral arrangements on consignment. The shop also will have Kansas mementos available.

The salon will carry Matrix and Redken hair products and Crawford can special order products for customers.

Crawford said her father, Bob Hartley, owner of the Highway 56 Auto/Truck Wash made her dream a reality.

"We're just kind of a team out here," she said.

Sometime in the future she hopes to expand and install tanning beds. The location lends itself to expansion, she said.

Crawford has two boys, Blake 10 and Seth 7, and one daughter Falon 5. She is engaged to marry Michael Williams, an employee of Hett Construction. He has one son, Colton 2 1/2.

"I'm active with my kids and in Eastmoor United Methodist Church," Crawford said. "Opening this shop was the best decision for me and my family."

The shop will be open Tuesday through Saturdays by appointment only. To make an appointment, customers may call the shop at 382-3500 or call Crawford at home 382-3953.
