This is difficult to believe

I know you won't believe this, it is even difficult for me. I'm following the war in Iraq on TV and at the same time reading the book, "Walking the Bible" by Bruce Feiler. He walked through Egypt, Sinai, Israel, and land thereabouts.

The author describes the land and the desert so well that I can imagine what our troops are experiencing. His descriptions are so well written and beautiful at times and the people he meets are so real it is unbelievable (the book was published in 2001).

He not only writes about the land during Bible times, but brings up the present and people we have heard of. I suppose you can see I'm just carried away at the fact that I'm reading about the places I'm seeing and hearing about right now in my own living room.

Also, as I watch the planes landing and taking off the aircraft carriers, I think of our friend Alex Case, who performed the same way during the Korean War.

We are praying this war will be of short duration and with few casualties. Who knows, it may be over before this appears in the paper.

Rowena Plett, reporter for the Marion County Record, came to interview me the other day. I suppose I should be flattered to be considered important enough for such attention. I don't feel that my life story is that interesting, but it has been quite a "ride" and a long one. Many of my peers are gone, and I surely miss them. Fortunately the next generation has been kind and caring. Isn't life wonderful!
