Thoughts from your (old) new sports editor

It's been six months, so I can't promise this won't be a little rusty.

As of this past Monday I have returned as sports editor for Hoch Publishing Company and the Marion County Record.

And it feels good.

After a brief hiatus from Marion, my wife and I (OK me because Jamie didn't really want to leave) realized for now this is the place to be.

I missed writing as well, and while my other job was ok, the Record is where I wanted to be.

When my successor David Colburn left for a job in Los Angeles, the door was open for my return.

I am grateful the paper has welcomed me back, and I'm ready to get going. Since I've just started this week and have only one day until we go to print, I thought I would just share a few random thoughts, not all sports related, that have been on my mind.

— I actually hope K-State makes the NCAA tournament, it just can't go any farther than KU probably will: the first round.

— It felt like the Marion boys were going to come back in the fourth quarter of that sub-state game, it just didn't happen. Good season though, fellas.

— Opponents need to beware of the MHS girls' basketball team the next few years.

— "Lost" is my favorite show on TV right now, but come on! There are still 13 more episodes this year, and at least one more season after that. How long before we actually find out what is going on?

— KU scares me to death when it plays in a close game. I think the 'Hawks need to be up by 25 for me to breathe easy.

— Kevin Durant. The NBA is calling, please leave so KU doesn't have to play against you in Austin next season.

— I'm already tired of the 2008 presidential race.

— I've really started to get into "Desperate Housewives" lately. So, sue me.

— A 20-minute walk to work beats a 50-mintue drive any day.

— The Warrior wrestlers may not have racked up a lot of points at the state tournament, but sending four to Hays is an accomplishment.

— As far as the spring sports season goes, it's like I haven't missed a beat. I'm ready for the 75-degree weather on the diamond and the track.

— It's good to be back!
