Three residences featured in Christmas tour

'Christmas Magic'

show also is available

The annual Christmas Home Tour in Marion gives people the opportunity to see how others decorate the interiors of their homes for the holiday season. It also is a way individuals can contribute to Marion City Library.

This year's tour features three homes on Marion's east side. The come-and-go event is scheduled for 1-5 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the library or at the homes on the day of the tour.

Roger and Sally Hannaford live at 2 Fairway Drive. Their home features a traditional, comfortable atmosphere with lots of greenery.

Decorations include three Christmas trees. One has an athletic theme featuring sentimental ornaments pertaining to their children's athletic interests. Another more traditional tree is decorated with wooden ice skates, berries, candy canes, and greenery. A third tree follows a Victorian theme.

The basement family room displays a combined Santa Claus collection belonging to Sally and her mother, Lu Harp of Newton. The wide variety includes golfing Santas.

Mike and Karen Regnier live at 221 Tanglewood Drive. The light, airy ground floor features a mix of Shabby Chic and Victorian decorations in nontraditional colors. A retro silver Christmas tree and several others will be on display.

Decorations in the basement are cottage-style in traditional colors. Numerous Santas are included.

Chris and Janet Killough live at 5 Fairway Drive. The main floor and second story of their home will be open to visitors.

Christmas decorations complement the striking, dark colors on the walls and the dark hardwood floors.

The main Christmas tree is decorated with ornaments collected by the Killough's children when they were small. Another tree specializes in ornaments related to firemen. An upside-down Christmas tree hangs from rafters on the deck.

"We like a real homey, traditional Christmas," Janet Killough said.

In addition to the home tours, Marion City Library will be serving refreshments all afternoon and conducting tours of the facility.

The annual "Christmas Magic" show also will be Sunday afternoon. Tables of Christmas settings and Christmas tree displays will be featured in the basement of Marion City Building. Tickets to that event are $2, with proceeds going to the Marion tourism committee.

For youngsters wanting to get their wish list in early, Santa will be available from 2 to 4 p.m. in his house on Main Street between Duckwalls and Suffields.
