The Marion County Record salutes people who make Marion and the surrounding area a better place to live and work.

Hats off to these folks . . .

— Art in the Park organizers, volunteers, and participants for a successful festival.

— Lady Warrior volleyball team, which was undefeated in the Centre Invitational, winning the championship.

— Sondra Mayfield and Margo Kinman, winners of the first "Friend of Children and Youth" award by Communities in Schools of Marion County.

— Organizers of a coaches' scholarship program planned for Marion High School.

— Marion County Economic Development Council, which sponsored the fireworks show Sept. 1 at Marion County Lake.

— Marion County Junior Warriors football team, whose first game ended in a double-overtime tie against Derby.

— Dr. Jerry Vinduska who scored a hole-in-one Sept. 3 on the Hesston golf course.

— Marion High School carpentry students who plan to build a new house for Santa, which will be placed downtown during the holidays.

— The California girls, are back from vacation and writing the Ramona news and the popular "Just Another Day in the Country" column.

— Eldon and Isla Rose Nelson of Burdick who received a Century Farm Award from Kansas Farm Bureau.

— The Dorcas Society of Our Savior Lutheran Church which joined residents of St. Luke Living Center for an evening of Bingo. They also provided the prizes.

— Marion Elementary School fourth grade teachers Doug Dick, Laura Baldwin, and Linda Allison for organizing a re-enactment of the Cherokee Land Rush for their students.

— Michele Griffith who was featured in the Sept. 10 issue of the Salina Journal.

— Centre USD 397 for taking swift action to plug and cap an old well hole found at the elementary school.
