Tournament raises money for scholarship program
Marion High School Coaches Scholarship Program hosted a successful golf tournament Saturday to help raise money for its foundation.
Former Marion resident and current committee member Gary Melcher helped organize the four-person team scramble tournament.
The wining team was Vern Dreier, Mike Dreier, Bob Buller, and John Roberts with a score of 59.
Two teams tied for second place with a round of 61: Tod Gordon, Jeff Goering, Gordon Pendergraft, and Dan Miller made up one team, while Chris Costello, Don Bredemeier, Doug Hague, and Lloyd Brown rounded out the other.
The money raised from the tournament will help fund scholarships.
It was formed to honor former MHS coaches who have helped students succeed on and off the field.
Three scholarships are offered each year.
