Training offered in 'Communities That Care'
All five school districts in Marion County will host Communities That Care training in March and April.
Communities That Care offers an introduction to risk-focused prevention. It provides communities with a foundation for a countywide, coordinated plan to reduce alcohol and drug use, juvenile crime, and other risks affecting youth.
All parents, educators, and community members are invited to attend. It is an important part of the effort to improve support and services in Marion County.
Sessions are from 4 to 9 p.m. A meal is provided. There is no charge to attend but pre-registration is required.
Dates and locations are March 4, Hillsboro High School Technology Center; March 7, McGillicuddy's banquet room in Marion; March 14, Centre Junior-Senior High School; and April 1, Peabody-Burns Junior-Senior High School.
Time and location for training in Goessel will be announced later.
Training includes an overview of the Communities That Care model, an introduction to risk-focused prevention, an understanding of social development strategy, and suggests tools to implement a plan for community mobilization.
The training is funded through a grant from the Eighth Judicial District, which includes Marion County, and the Kansas Juvenile Justice Authority. Locally, the training is sponsored by Communities In Schools of Marion County.
