Trapp family story is a favorite
Do you have a favorite musical show? I do, and it is "Sound of Music." A great story, as well as beautiful music! The other night, Julie Andrews was on the Larry King show. She is such a pretty and talented woman and so charismatic. It is just a tragedy that she lost her voice in a surgery procedure. I just loved her as "Maria." It is funny how things sometimes come together.
Someone loaned me a small book called "Maria" written by Maria Von Trapp and published in 1972. I did not know what to expect, just needed something to read, so I thought I would give it a try. However, I found it so appealing as it unfolded the life of the real Maria, I couldn't lay it down. I just keep thinking about her interesting life.
It is Thanksgiving time again. Our thoughts go back to the many family gatherings and, of course, the good food. Now, I just want the traditional meal — turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie.
The community dinner is such a nice thing. How wonderful of the people who prepare and serve it and maybe it keeps many a person from being lonely on our national holiday. I can picture those pilgrims and Indians standing around, waiting for a bite of that wild turkey.
While I'm writing this, Kansas State is showing the "Show Me State" how to play football. K-State surely will get a bid for a good bowl game.
I remember when the annual Thanksgiving Peabody/Marion football game kept the cooks wondering if they would serve dinner before the game or after it. If Marion won, it was a happy celebration — if they lost, things were pretty gloomy.
Happy Thanksgiving!
