Travis Burns leads Cougars in win over White City

In a make-up game with White City Feb. 10, the Cougars had an excellent first half, which helped them hold a lead until the end. They won the game, 71-64.

Travis Burns scored 21 points. Two other players in double digits were Curtis Gutsch, 13, and Todd Stahlecker, 11.

Four players completed a total of seven three-point attempts in the first two quarters, helping the Cougars to a 10-point lead at halftime.

They were outscored in the second half, but White City's three-point advantage was not enough to close the gap.

Justin Garrard was strong off the boards, with 10 rebounds.

The junior varsity fell to White City 60-41. The Cougars lagged behind 22-6 after the first quarter and weren't able to catch up to the Huskies.

They outscored White City 18-11 in the second quarter, but were 6-15 in the third and 11-12 in the fourth.

Tad Remy scored 13 points and Bryant Gutsch had 10. Other scorers were Andrew Hajek, 4; Chris Callahan, 8; Trent Hajek, 3; Nathan Brunner, 2; and Tim Baker, 1.

Centre vs. St. John

Friday's home game with St. John's Military, Salina, wasn't much of a contest. The Cougars came away with an easy win.

With quarter scores of 26-4, 61-25, 78-50, and a final of 90-60, the outcome never was in doubt.

Todd Stahlecker scored 28 points including three from three-point range. He was followed by Curtis Gutsch, with 18, Travis Burns, 17, and Aaron Barney, 10.

Gutsch provided 12 assists, and Derek Belton had 11 rebounds.

Andrew Hajek was leading scorer with 16 points. Bryant Gutsch had nine, followed by Trent Hajek, six, Tad Remy, four, Chris Callahan and Steven Hageberg, two each, and Jeremy Kristek, 1.
