Trent Summar joins Chingawassa lineup
Trent Summar and the New Row Mob, a country-rock group gaining nationwide attention, will appear at Chingawassa Days in Marion.
They will open for 38 Special June 1 in Central Park. Gates open at 6 p.m., with the chain saw art auction at 7 p.m. Those older than 10 must have a square concert button to attend.
Their self-titled debut album features songs that show Summar's twangy Tennessee bluegrass roots, mixed with fast and fiery rock.
Summar formed Hank Flamingo in 1996 and released an album, but it struggled. He received encouragement from VFR Records, and formed the New Row Mob in 2000.
The band is made up of skilled rock musicians with roots in country. The "Mob" includes members from Ozark Mountain Daredevils, the Mavericks, and Trisha Yearwood's band.
Videos, including "Paint Your Name in Purple" and "New Money," appear on GAC, the country music television station carried in Marion County by Galaxy Cablevision.
Summar also is tentatively scheduled to host an episode of "Country Request Live," this week. The program airs in the afternoon and evenings.
Original opening act Catawampus canceled their agreement to perform.
Concert buttons are $20 each until May 25, when they go to full price of $25. They include admission to concert, ice cream social, barbecue, and other activities. Basic buttons, which do not include the concert or art auction, are $7 in advance, $10 starting May 25.
There is a $2 per-button discount for purchase of 20 or more buttons.
Buttons are available at Marion National Bank, Central National Bank in Marion, Hillsboro, and Durham, Tampa State Bank in Tampa and Marion, Marion Health-Mart Pharmacy, Carlsons' IGA, Gene's Travel, Marion city offices, and the Peabody Gazette-Bulletin office.
