Trio ends season at state golf meet
Marion's Nickolas Hett, Joe Svitak, and Trevor Jones ended their respective seasons April 27 at the Class 3A state golf tournament held at the Salina Country Club.
Hett shot 79 in the 18-hole event to pace the Warriors, but failed to place in the top 20 golfers. He shot a 40 in round one and a 39 in round two.
Svitak shot an 85, which included a 44 in the first nine holes and a 41 in the last nine.
Jones finished with a 94 for the day. He shot 47s in both rounds.
Head coach Doug Dick said that despite the trios' failure to crack the top 20, their experience will be invaluable next season.
"It was a fun year," Dick said. "We should have five pretty strong golfers next year. The nice thing is that we have them (Hett, Svitak, and Jones) all coming back.
The Marion coach also said nerves played a small roll in the trios' abilities during the event.
"I know that they were nervous as all get out," Dick said. "I told them that just getting to go to state is an accomplishment."
Hett finished in 29th place overall.
"He was in the top 10 in every tournament," Dick said. "He golfed well all season and I look for big things from him next year."
Svitak finished 57th and Jones 94th overall.
"My surprise was when Joe and Trevor made it to state," Dick said. "They played well and deserved to get to state."
