Trucker asks permission to park truck at home

A truck driver asked Marion City Council Monday for permission to park his tractor and trailer at his residence.

Kevin Steele said he recently purchased property at 548 W. Santa Fe Street which has more than an acre for storage of his truck and trailer.

Steele said he had contacted his neighbors who signed a statement in support of allowing him to park on his property.

Currently, city ordinances do not allow semi parking within the city limits except in commercial lots designated for that purpose.

Steele said he was concerned about driving a loaded trailer over railroad tracks and making a sharp corner to utilize a parking lot he currently uses on Grant Street.

He said he also is considering the construction of a storage building to house his truck and trailer.

Later in the meeting when city attorney Dan Baldwin was in attendance, he suggested the council wait until the next meeting to make a decision.
