Two books worth reading

Our 38th president just died. Gerald Ford was 93 and for the most part, he was admired. He was sort of "the all-American boy." I sat through all his funeral services. Military funerals are so impressive. I'm sure it was hard on his wife, Betty.

I watched a Charlie Rose program on aging. The man he interviewed was a doctor and researcher from France. He thinks people will begin to live to be 120 years old. If so, there will have to be a lot of changes made, especially Social Security and insurance.

I have just read the book, "Water For Elephants." Such an unusual story about a young man who accidentally finds himself on a circus train. His adventures and challenges were very interesting. It is one of those books you can't put down. An elephant did have an important part.

I received five books for Christmas. They all are sure to be interesting. I have already read one, "Creeker." It is a story of a girl growing up in the Kentucky Hills. I love those southern stories. The people from the South are so different from those in the North. Such a good story.

I also received a book of beautiful photographs of the Holy Land where Jesus walked. So you can see I'm going to be kept out of mischief for awhile.
