Irene Waylan of Miami, Okla., came a week ago to visit her mother Mildred Hajek, brother Francis Hajek, and other relatives. Her intention was to visit from Friday to Sunday evening, but when she heard the weather forecast she left Saturday. Irene said they had eight inches of snow Sunday.
Ramona Bezel of Tampa recently picked up her mother, Frances Stuchlik, and they went to Towanda to visit Kenny and Melinda Stuchlik and family. They also attended the Circle High School drama class' play, "Flowers for Algernon," in which the Stuchliks' son Matthew had a part. Ramona and Frances were overnight guests of the family and the next day went to Mass at St. Vincent Catholic Church. After church, they enjoyed a pancake and sausage breakfast hosted by the Boy Scouts. Patrick Stuchlik, son of the Kenny Stuchliks', is a scout. Following the breakfast, Ramona, Frances, and Kenny drove to Mulvane where they visited Frances' sister, Irene Dougherty at the Villa Maria Nursing Home. Frances hadn't seen her sister for almost 18 years. Frances said they had a really nice visit. Ramona and Frances also visited another of Frances' sisters and her husband, Georgia and Mike Aaron and family after Mass at St. Vincent Catholic Church.
Mervin Deines was baby-sitting his grandson Dylan Deines who was celebrating his fourth birthday. Dylan has the chicken pox, so he had to miss preschool at Vicki Jirak's.
Bob and Irma Reznicek ate at the Catholic Workmen's pancake and sausage breakfast Sunday after Mass at the Pilsen church. Later, they visited Bob and Carol Makovec.
Oaklan and Tia Jenkins stayed overnight Friday with their grandmother, Selma Ingram.
Neil and Jolene Albrecht hosted a supper Saturday at the Trinity Lutheran Church parish hall in celebration of their daughter Kallie's second birthday. Guests were Junior and Jeanetta Hanschu, Fred and Marguerite Utech, Jayson and Jan Hanschu, Jakob and Jorge of Hillsboro, Jeff and Jennifer Braden and Joshua of Windom, B. Albrecht, Linda James, Donna Staatz, Katie and Aaron of Herington, Dustin Gentz and three friends of White City, Gary and Judy Neuschaefer of Lindsborg, and Velma Hunbarger of Herington. They played games, served cake and ice cream, and Kallie opened her gifts, with paper flying everywhere.
Clark Strecker of Andover and Laura Drebon of Omaha, Neb., stopped in on the way from Omaha to Andover Sunday evening and had supper at my house.
Adella Katz and Steve hosted dinner in celebration of Oaklan Jenkins eighth birthday. Guests were Larry and Connie Jenkins and Tia, Selma Ingram, Charles and Lori Smithhart and Michael and Heidi Jenkins and Ian of Hillsboro.
Junior Hanschu attended the Tampa Elevator API lunch and meeting Friday evening. The Tampa Lutheran ladies served the lunch.
My daughter-in-law Carla Strecker of San Antonio, Texas, called Sunday afternoon. She said is was so cold and wet last Tuesday and everything was icy. There was no school and Lowell didn't go to work.
My sister, Lorena Pospisil of Libuse, La., wrote plans for the Czech Festival March 15 and 16 are about in place. She is baking gingerbread cookies and kolaches for the event. She said they were having whistling and bubble gum blowing contests. They hold these Czech festivals in March each year. They have Czech polka band from the Czech Republic furnish the music.
Gregory Stenzel and Becky Jackson took a chocolate cake and supper to Betty Stenzel Friday to celebrate her birthday. Later, Gregory and Becky went to the last half of the Centre basketball game to watch Nikki play in the pep band and to take her home. Gregory, Becky, and Betty went to Salina Sunday and ate at the Coyote Canyon.

Tammy and Bryant Farris of Overland Park visited their grandmother, Frances Hanschu, Saturday afternoon. They had been at the birthday celebration of their other grandmother, Maxine Mueller, Tampa.
Larry and Connie Jenkins and sister Tia took Oaklan to Salina Saturday afternoon to see the movie, "Jungle Book II" in celebration of her eighth birthday.
Mary Loewen of Hillsboro accompanied Bob and Irma Reznicek to Wichita Friday evening for a Bishop Carroll High School basketball game. Irma's granddaughter Jennifer Torline of Derby performed with the color guard at half time.
Frances Hanschu was a guest Wednesday evening at Norma Weber's birthday party.
Oaklan and Tia Jenkins were Saturday overnight guests of their grandmother, Selma Ingram.
Albina Kroupa died at Salem Nursing Home, Hillsboro. Her Rosary and funeral service were Tuesday at the Pilsen church.
Frances Hanschu was called Thursday morning with the message that her husband, Clinton was very ill in Salina. Frances was with him from Thursday to Saturday.
Carol Makovec visited Irma and Bob Reznicek Saturday afternoon.
Sympathy goes to the Harold Carlson family. Harold died Friday and his funeral will be Tuesday at the Hebron Lutheran Church.
Brr — it is cold. I believe we had two to four inches of snow Sunday. The Centre district had school. The roads were OK.
Alex Stuchlik's polka band played for the wedding dance of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Burngardt Saturday at the Resurrection parish school gym. The dance was attended by Alex and Jean, Gary Stuchlik and Amanda of Pilsen, and Rita Stuchlik of Wichita.
Junior and Jeanetta Hanschu attended the pancake and sausage supper sponsored by the Trinity Lutheran Church Fellowship Club. They had a good turnout in spite of the cold snowy weather. Forty-four people relished the pancakes and sausage that Leona Deines flipped and flopped on the grill.
Junior and Jeanetta Hanschu took her parents Fred and Marguerite Utech to the Brookville Hotel in Abilene to celebrated Fred's 80th birthday. When they arrived at the restaurant Fred was surprised to see his son Garland Utech and wife Diana and Lance of Amsterdam, Mo., Jeff and Amy Gregory of Butler, Mo., Sally Utech of Lawrence, Jayson and Jan Hanschu, Jakob and Jorge of Hillsboro, Jeff and Jennifer Braden and Joshua of Windom, and Neil and Jolene Albrecht and Kallie of Salina.
Betty Stroda of Herington and Ruby Holub of rural Marion were guests of Irma Reznicek for dinner Tuesday. They spent the afternoon chatting.
There was a lot of activity Thursday at the Ramona Senior Center. People came in to have their homestead and income tax taken care of by Noreen Weems, chairman of the Marion County Department for Elderly. Those who were there for the dinner were Reign and Marlene Anduss, Donald and Norma Bird, Larry Rudolph, Darlene and Alfred Sondergard, Treva Schneider, Frances Buxman, Lowell and Marge Hanschu, Kathy Hermann, Diana Ecklund, Noreen Weems, Bob and Rita Brady, and Tony Meyer. After dinner, Norma Bird, president conducted the meeting. She announced commodities would arrive at the center on March 16. Noreen announced the 11 county senior centers would meet April 18 at the Ramona center. Bob Brady said he would be a volunteer bus driver for bus tours. The subject came up as to how the center was going to be billed for trash. Noreen was concerned about who would report for the center at the monthly Marion County Department for Elderly meetings in the county. Several stayed to play Bingo.
Larry Rudolph visited his sister Mary Black, Micky and Lance in Herington one day last week. Larry fed my cattle Friday .
