Uncommon folks in common

The list below, and it could be expanded, is of a group of uncommon people who had something in common. Each is a well known public figure, and each is connected by linking thread.

Here goes: Fatty Arbuckle, the famous actor of a bygone era; Walter P. Chrysler, the industrial giant and founder of one of the Big Three automobile empires; Clark Clifford, the statesman and political figure; John Steuart Curry, an artist without equal who vividly depicted the rural scene; Amelia Earhart, the female aviator who crossed the Atlantic and eventually died under mysterious surroundings near a Pacific atoll; the actor Dennis Hopper; William Inge, a Pulitzer playwright. Buster Keaton made millions laugh on screen; Emmett Kelley made millions laugh under the big top; Stan Kenton could blow his horn; Harold Lloyd was a famous actor; Zasu Pitts was a famous actress; Damon Runyon the dean of sports writers; Barry Sanders, an all-time football star running back; John Cameron Swayze, the radio/TV news reporter and Timex peddler; and Vivian Vance, an all time favorite in I Love Lucy.

There you have it. What they share in common is that all are Jayhawkers born in Kansas.
