Vehicle accident claims life of rural Tampa teen-ager

Injuries suffered in a one-vehicle accident on 330th near Goldenrod, about four miles north of Durham, have resulted in the death of Heidi J. Dirks, 17.

Dirks was the daughter of Bradley and Joyce Dirks, 631 340th, Tampa.

Driving a 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier, she was traveling east on 330th at 12:10 p.m. Sunday when she apparently lost control of the vehicle. It spun 180 degrees and landed in the ditch facing west.

Durham first responders and a Tampa ambulance crew were the first to arrive on the scene. Dirks was transported to Hillsboro Community Medical Center.

She was reported in critical condition and was airlifted to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

According to the sheriff's report, Dirks died Monday afternoon.

She is remembered by many as a cheerful waitress at Kingfisher's Inn, Marion.
