Velma Fitzmaurice

Velma R. Fitzmaurice, 73, died at her home June 15, 2003, following an illness with cancer.

She was born May 6, 1930, at Wichita, the daughter of Joe and Izora (Widener) Cannon.

Wichita was her home as a child and she attended school there and graduated from high school.

She and Robert Fitzmaurice were married May 18, 1948, in Wichita. They had six children, three boys and three girls.

Before marriage she worked at the Model Laundry at Wichita. After she was married she devoted her time as a wife and mother. As a hobby she enjoyed working with flowers in her yard.

Velma and Robert lived in Wichita and El Dorado where he was a mechanic. In 1984 they moved to Lincolnville and in '94 to their home in the country near Lincolnville.

She is survived by her husband Robert "Rocky" Fitzmaurice of the home; three sons, John of El Dorado and Joe and Jim, both of Lincolnville; three daughters, Mary Jane Morrison of Pilsen, Julie McMillan of Oregon, and Paula Love of Lincolnville. Also surviving are two sisters Thelma Middleton of Arkansas and Marie Vanderkillen of Reno, Nev.; nine grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Wichita. The Rev. Bill Sherfy will officiate.
