Velma Krause

Velma Katherine Krause, 79, of Lincolnville died Sept. 13, 2003, at Newman Hospital in Emporia.

Born May 2, 1924, in Ramona, she was the fifth child of Alexander and Susanna (Riffel) Hanschu.

She was baptized May 25, 1924, and confirmed in the Lutheran faith on June 5, 1938, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Ramona.

She graduated in 1941 from Ramona High School and went on to receive a teaching certificate from Pittsburg Teachers College in 1942. She taught at Bethel Grade School from 1942 to 1944 and taught the upper grades at Lincolnville School from 1944-45.

On June 3, 1945, she married Paul Henry Krause at Ramona. The couple farmed east of Lincolnville until Paul's death on Oct. 22, 1985.

Velma was a homemaker and an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where she served in various offices of the Ladies Aid. She also was active in the fellowship club at the church and with the senior citizens' group.

Hobbies included traveling, playing cards and other board games, cooking, gardening, church work, and spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and five brothers, Harry, Daniel, Art, Wilbur, and Paul Hanschu.

Survivors include four sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Deb Krause of Council Grove, Dennis and Ana Krause of Lincolnville, Darrel and Ginny Krause of Lakewood, Colo., and Terry and Erin Krause of Emporia; two brothers, Harold Hanschu of Salina and Junior Hanschu of Ramona; 10 grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.

A prayer service was held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Zeiner Funeral Home, Marion.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday) at St. John's Lutheran Church, Lincolnville, with the Rev. Alan Stahlecker officiating.

Casket bearers were Jordan Krause, Kevin Hanschu, Jared Krause, Jayson Hanschu, Randy Albrecht, and Gary Neuschafer.

Organist was Ruth Poppe.

Burial was in Lincolnville Cemetery.
