Vernon Magathn Jr.
J. Vernon Magathan Jr., 81, of Herington, died March 2, 2005, at Salina Regional Health Center.
Born Nov. 16, 1923, at Florence, he was the son of John and Thelma (Brewer) Magathan.
He was a 1941 graduate of Marion High School. On Dec. 12, 1943, he married Kathryn Hanschu at Lost Springs.
He worked for the City of Herington then went to work at Herington Elementary School as a janitor, maintenance man, and bus driver until his retirement.
He was a member of Herington United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis Sader; and his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Kathryn of Herington; a daughter, Debbie Goodyear of Herington; three sons, Larry Magathan of Olathe, Bobbie Magathan of Herington, and Dan Magathan of Wichita; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday morning at Herington United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jorge Arvelo and the Rev. Shawn Baird officiating.
Burial was in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
A memorial fund has been established with the Alzheimer's Association.
