Versch, Davidson are students of the month
Joel Versch and Sarah Davidson have been named Marion High School's students of the month.
Joel, a senior, has been active in both sports and academic pursuits while at MHS.
He has been a four-year member of both the football squad and basketball team, and participated in track three years.
He's been involved with choir and band for four years, participated in math contests and been a member of National Honor Society for three years. Joel served on the leadership team one year, and was also a peer mediator for one year.
Active in student council, he was president of both his freshman and sophomore class, and is serving as vice president as a senior.
"Football is my favorite activity," Joel said.
Outside school, he is a member of the Valley United Methodist Church, and a member of the church's youth group.
Joel and his parents, Jim and Judy Versch, live at 126 S. Cedar, Marion. He has four brothers and sisters, Jesse, Sarah, Emalee, and Jordan.
Joel plans to attend Kansas State University next year majoring in architecture.
Sarah, a junior at Marion High School, enjoys speech and drama activities. Just completing her second year of debate competition, Sarah and her debate partner had a good showing at the state debate tournament Jan. 24-25.
Sarah has been involved in forensics competition three years, participated in the melodrama and musical three years, and is a three year member of the Quiz Bowl team.
"I've always been involved and interested in forensics," Sarah said. "It's my favorite sport."
She plans to remain very involved in speech, debate, and her other activities next year.
Sarah has been involved with Key Club two years, choir for one year, track for one year, and ran with the cross country team for two years, serving as manager one year.
Outside the school day, Sarah is a 4-H club member and officer, and has served as lector, cantor, and organist at the Catholic church.
The daughter of Rose and Greg Davidson, Sarah lives at 2350 E. 220th Street in Marion. She has one sister, Rachel.
