VFW ladies' auxiliary meets
Fifteen members of the ladies' auxiliary to Ecker-Fulkerson-Slifer VFW Post 6958 were present Aug. 8 at the monthly meeting at the post home.
Three guests, fourth district president Jerri McBride of Hope, senior vice president Inga May and Betty Smith, both of Emporia, were present.
The meeting was conducted according to ritual by president Donna Kreutziger.
Tammy McKinnis was accepted as a new member of the auxiliary.
Minutes of the previous meeting and a treasurer's report were read and approved.
The department president's message and correspondence from Colmery O'Neill VA, Topeka, was read.
Committee reports for programs were given.
Gloria Ash will be chairman for veterans and family support, formerly known as rehabilitation. Chairmen are still needed for cancer aid and research and legislative/PAC.
The auxiliary will collect Boxtops for Education, tabs for cans, Campbell's labels, canceled stamps, and fronts of greeting cards.
The charter was draped in memory of Emma J. Herbel.
A donation of $50 was given to the general hospital fund and $25 was given to Kansas Cottage at the VFW National Home.
Members voted to bring school supplies to the September meeting to be donated to schools.
The auxiliary will participate in the Old Settlers' Day parade.
Fourth district president, Jerri McBride, reported to the auxiliary enough comfort items were collected at the mid-summer school of instruction to send four boxes to troops. Auxiliaries are being asked to donate new white T-shirts, white socks, and white boxer shorts at the fall conference Oct. 8 at Junction City.
The national president will make a tour of Kansas Sept. 11-13 with stops at Junction City and Abilene.
The meeting was closed according to the ritual and with the national home prayer, POW/MIA prayer, and prayer for our troops.
Donna Kreutziger and Audrey McLinden were hostesses for the social time.
The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. Sept. 12 at the post home.
