Vote, but be informed
People say "It's important to vote, we don't care how you vote, but only that you vote." Such a slogan is silly, it's important that you be informed on the issues and vote accordingly.
Registered voters in Marion will soon have the opportunity to decide the highly controversial regional landfill issue .
Unfortunately, it's highly likely that most people won't take the opportunity to address the issue. They won't vote. Only those who have approached the issue from an emotional or self-centered stand will make the decision.
There are two camps. A highly organized group is convinced that a regional landfill at the northeast corner of Marion would be a blight. They say it would pollute the water supply, draw rodents and crows, and be a negative mark against the community.
Another group feels the landfill would be a benefit to the community, completely safe, well maintained, and provide much needed economic advantage in the form of labor, taxes, and income.
This writer has attempted to convince people to visit a regional landfill to get first-hand information instead of emotional opinion.
Unfortunately, few people made that effort. They will be uninformed voters.
There's still time to become better informed before you are asked to vote on this important issue March 5.
