War Dogs win El Dorado tournament
The Cottonwood Valley War Dogs baseball team continued its winning streak this past weekend by taking first place in a tournament.
Competing in the 12-and-under division of the El Dorado Invitational Baseball Tournament, the team is the same team that won the Cal Ripken 11-and-under state tournament this past summer.
On Saturday, the War Dogs defeated Rose Hill Patriots, 4-3. Later that day, they knocked off Andover Diamondbacks, 4-2.
In Sunday's single elimination play, the War Dogs beat the host team, El Dorado Red Sox, 4-1, followed by the championship game with Wichita Yankees.
The final game of the tourney looked like a dog fight until the top of the last inning when the War Dogs scored nine runs and took a commanding 12-2 lead. The Yankees tried to come back, but ran out of steam, losing to the War Dogs by a score of 12-8.
Members of the championship team are Cody Wildin, Brandon Line, Jacob Edwards, Dillon Wildon, Tyler Ediger, Ben Green, Shawn Talkington, Isaac Hett, Jim Lauer, Garrett Benjamin, Brian Fruechting, Heath Hill, and Wil Case. Coaches are Casey Case and Jay Talkington.
