Solid defense and Brandi-Petrie-Shipman's 19 points and seven rebounds helped clinch a home victory Tuesday for the Marion High School girls' basketball team against the Wichita Trinity Knights, 63-32.
The Warriors jumped out to an early 14-6 advantage in the first quarter, corralling the Knight offense and holding them to six.
In the second quarter, Marion's defense bent and allowed 12 points, but managed to nab 14 of their own to take a 28-18 lead at intermission.
With a 10-point lead after half-ime, the Warriors poured it on in the third quarter, scoring 25 points and allowing only 11. After three quarters, the Marion team had a comfortable 24-point advantage.
In the final quarter, Marion held the Knights to three points, while rattling off 10 of their own and taking a 31-point victory.
Complementing Petrie-Shipman's 19, was senior Emmy Bowers, who finished with 10 points, and nine rebounds in the win. Allie Maddox and Caitlin O'Dell each finished with nine and eight points, respectivley.
The Warriors traveled Tuesday night to Council Grove to face the Braves, and are scheduled to host Chase County Thursday.
