Warrior JV tames Broncos
The Marion High School junior varsity football team wrapped up its season Monday with a convincing 28-0 road win over the Remington Broncos.
Warrior defenders locked down the Remington offense, which didn't have a serious scoring threat the entire game.
Wil Case, Tylor Neil, and Kyle Hett intercepted passes to thwart Bronco drives.
Marion opened the first quarter with a 48-yard scoring drive, highlighted by a 26-yard Nick Klenda run. Drew Maddox gave Marion a 6-0 lead with an 8-yard sweep for a touchdown.
Starting the third quarter at their own 38, the Warriors chewed up nearly six minutes on their next scoring drive. Klenda's 24-yard run took Marion to the Remington 16, and a few plays later he dived into the end zone to put Marion up 12-0. Isaac Hett ran for the 2-point conversion and a 14-0 advantage.
The Warriors added two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter.
Sheldon Boone powered his way around right end and sprinted to a 25-yard score, and Hett ran for the conversion to up the score to 22-0.
A Boone punt return set the Warriors up at the Remington 16, and Adam Regnier joined the scoring parade with a short touchdown plunge to cap the scoring.
"That was a good game to finish on," said Marion head coach Grant Thierolf. "It's been a good season for those kids."
"I can't think of one kid we had that didn't get better," he added.
Thierolf also praised the work his assistant coaches have done with the junior varsity.
"Mark (Meyer) and Shaun (Craft) have done a great job with those kids," he said.
