Warrior teams off to slow start at Trojan Classic
After one of its most exciting nights of the season Friday with two victories against Hoisington, the Marion High School boys' and girls' basketball teams scored just 72 combined points Monday in losses to Hesston and Riley County.
To give both teams credit, the girls were playing one of the top teams in 3A in the Falcons, and the boys took on the number one ranked team in 4A, the Hesston Swathers.
The boys will play at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Hillsboro High School gym.
The girls play at 3 p.m. Friday at HHS.
Kayley Heerey had one of her best games of the season for the Warriors, scoring a game-high 17 points to go along with four rebounds and two assists.
Julia Zeiner added eight points and two assists, and Amanda Richmond had four points and two rebounds in the 65-38 loss.
Kimber Hardey had three points, while Kristen Steinborn, Lindsay Hett, and Bridget Lundy each contributed two.
The non-league loss leaves the Warriors 2-1 in the Mid-Central Activities Association, and 4-6 overall.
The boys are sitting with the same records as the girls after a sluggish 61-36 defeat.
Eric Vogel was the lone player in double figures for the Warriors, scoring 10 points and grabbing five rebounds.
Calvin Jeffrey had nine points, Isaac Hett six, Luke Gordon five, Justin Heidebrecht four, and Elliot Hett two.
The Warriors didn't score more than 10 points in a quarter, and turned the ball over 22 times in the loss.
