Warrior wrestlers grapple at Chase Co., Hesston
The Marion/Peabody-Burns combined high school wrestling squad traveled Thursday to Chase County for a double-dual meet against Chase County and Burlington.
Adam Regnier, Dillon Wildin, and John Barr III were the only three Warriors to claim victories against Chase County, as the Warriors lost the team competition, 21-46.
Only one match between Marion and Burlington wrestlers was decided by points. All the rest ended with one wrestler being pinned by the other.
Cody Wildin, Brad Klenda, Regnier, and Barr III each mastered his opponent, but once again Marion came up short in team points, 24-48.
Marion was one of 16 schools which participated Saturday in the Hesston invitational tournament.
Wrestlers squared off in championship and consolation brackets of the double-elimination contest, with each wrestler's performance counting toward the team competition.
Dillon Wildin and Barr III each claimed third place finishes in their weight divisions, as Marion finished ninth overall, just a half-point behind Bishop Carroll and one point behind McPherson.
"We lost to some good kids today," said Warrior head coach Chad Adkins. "We keep getting better as a team.
"Dillon and John both wrestled really well," he continued. "Lots of others had some shining moments — just not a whole tournament's worth."
